8 - Pedri

Pedri is not holding us back, the mentality of the club is. They already think at Barca that Pedri is top 5 midfielders in the world, and in reality, there are 20 better than him.

He's a good player. If he improves, he has a chance of being great. At any top team he'd be a sub. At Barca and Spain he is no1 star almost because they have fallen big time from the top 4-5 teams out there, but at club level and NT level.

No he wouldnt be a sub at any other top team and most top teams would jump at chance to sign him.

There are not 20 midfielder better at what he does. Not even close.

Xavi and Lucho fucked their midfields when it mattered by making bad choices. That is not Pedris fault.

He was Spains best mid by far and their best player v Germany after being very good in first game.

Folk are revising hsitory and focusing on the wrong midfielders for why Spain have struggled and why Xavi got it wrong in Europe too many times.

Yeah, they'd love to sign him. To make him a starter in 2025.

Maybe. Not a slam dunk either. That's the thing with talented 18-19 year olds. Some pop, some don't.

You say that when he was better than Kimmich v Germany and has been better than Italian mids in last Euros etc.

Was best midfielder as well when played Bayern away.

He would start a lot for the top teams..and they would put better structures around him also.

Yeah, if you think he'd start for top teams... you're smoking some top shelf Aberdeen crack or something.

Ah, better structure... thank you very much, you mean elite players that would help him play under no pressure. Even Ferran Torres looked like a top player at City under that sort of environment. That went well.

He would.

Stop with your 'pressure' nonsense.

He has handled the pressure brilliantly.

You are uttrly clueless as usual.. this is reminiscent of past debates on players you thought were top and talents really.

Torres being a lot better for a better side actually plays into the idea Pedri would be better in a better structure also.. bizarre example.

With Xavi you underplay every player as want the narrative of him peroforming miracles with a limited squad... while previous coaches had shite players claimed were 'talents' and were being ignored who could help the team.

That is the reality.

Pedri, Dembele.. FDJ all limited.. Poor Xavi.

That is not Pedri's fault of course. But fans have to stop blowing smoke up his ass. He was one of the worst players from Spain in Qatar. He hasn't improved one bit in the last 2 years. At this rate, he's not gonna become that good.

But it's so weird to focus on Pedri (and Gavi) of all players, when pretty much any other position/player is worse off.

Like seriously, who apart from Kounde and for the time being Lewandowski (age) and Dembele (contract) is better on his position? Araujo i guess and then? Some others on a good day, but not really consistently.

The strangest part is to go on about 'pressure' when Pedri was always looking for ball and trying to be positive with it and was probably Spains best player.

Same as trying to make out isnt ready fro CL etc. He was best midfielder on park away to Bayern and away to Inter and probably home to Inter also.

He along with whole team were shit v Bayern.. but that is when pressure was OFF in a lot of ways.

What is happening with Pedri is same as some folk have done with MATS and Dembele in past.. they get so entrenched they start to only see what they think are the bad parts of their game and ignore a lot of the good parts.

Pedri is levels above Gavi at moment though and it isnt even close.

Yeah, but it's not about them really, it's about the club and the fans' fixation with them, and their absurd opinion in relation to their current level. Basically, they're talented youngsters, not top players. Treat them as such. Pedri and Gavi have no business being a Barca and Spain starters in any normal scenario. They should be first ones from the bench. They are starters not because they are incredible, but because the club is in turmoil.

The problem is the club and the fans desperately want a savior figure to get the club back to what it was 7-10 years ago. So you get things like omg Pedri is incredible and Ansu Fati is the next world beater.

Take a step back, and let these kids develop without such a huge burden on their heads. They are not great, but they're the best we have considering the situation, not a great spot to be in, but it's the reality. Everyone pretends the club is stlll tier 1 and Pedri plays because he is amazing . A complete fabrication and make-believe stuff.

At Barca, Lewandowski, De Jong, Dembele, Kounde, and Raphinha are the best players.

Are we debating over whos better than pedri and gavi? pedri easily. Pedri can control a game, gavi still has a long way to go in that respect. Dont tell me bbz is going on about lack of physicality again?

Nothing wrong with them starting games, or being seen as important players at their age. Especially true for Pedri, who is already very experienced for his age. Doesn't make sense to just bench them, there would be little development that way. Players need experience and also some level of pressure. We couldn't get a better player than Pedri anyway, it's not like we are talking about benching prime Xavi to develop a young Thiago scenario here.

Still don't really see whats the point in all of this though, people expect too much from them...yeah okay, but now what? Like it just feels like a discussion about nothing. Both are like the least of our problems at the moment, both will be useful for years to come - that's something we can only say about a handful of players in the whole squad.

More important what the club/coach thinks and how we adjust going forward. Only way that comes down to Gavi and Pedri is if the club would not get a new midfielder because of them, but tbf the deciding factor is more likely Busquets. If we keep Busi as a starter then yeah we're not gonna see any change, doesn't even matter where they see Gavi for example atm then because either way we still have Frenkie + Kessie too. I guess in a way us almost selling FDJ could be seen as being down on how they value Gavi, but we all know that decision was for a big part a financial one and there were rumors of us going for another CM in that case too (Bernardo, Soler) so it's not like them overrating Gavi lead to us having a worse team or anything.

If we move on from Busquets as the center of our play then we'll need a new midfielder either way, and it has to be a good one. Then the rest is on the coach, even right now we don't have to start both kids.
