There was recently talk about comparing Gravenberch/Ceballos with Pedri based solely on statistics. But you cannot evaluate players solely through statistics (including advanced ones), ignoring visual viewing of matches. So, visual observation of each of these players suggests that Pedri has simply excellent timing and an exceptional assessment of space. Even advanced statistics will not show this.

I criticized Pedri a lot for his slow feet last season, when he moved as if he was unloading trucks of goods the day before the match. But this season he is very good.

Hey @Birdy

Can we get some data/stats on Gravenberch vs Pedri this season?

Thanks

Here is your fbref comparison.
Anything in particular you want to look at?

Pedri has higher xA and xG per 90
also better attacking stats in general.
They are almost tie in progressive carries per 90
Gravenberch has better interceptions and tackles per 90

Pedri has 20% more carries per 90 and also edges him in the rest of the metrics (progressive distance, into final third etc) by 10 or more percent, bit odd to call that a tie innit.
Gravenberch only better in Interceptions and tackles.

Pedri is better in all passing metrics, and more progressive. Twice or triple the amount of switches, long passes, key passes, through balls etc.
Better dribbler. More goals. More Assists.

I'd say stats don't do Pedri's influence on the pitch justice, but unless you think tackles and interceptions are the most important stats for a midfielder, then Pedri pretty much crushes Gravenberch.
