8 - Pedri

The most control Barca can have in this system is with FDJ DM and Pedri the box to box player on the left.

They can quite easily switch also.

That mid has levels more control, legs and passing range from deeper than anything currently at club.

Prefer Pedri deeper to in AM when expected to be getting in box and get stats more than help control game.

There's a silver lining. At least he was not playing 70+ games as a teenager every year like the likes of Neymar and Hazard did. Such mileage accumulates and can contribute to shorter careers and earlier peaks.

Some people will argue this happened because he got overplayed.

if he gets injured again this season, we gotta put him in the Dembele category.

No matter how talented you are, you can’t be missing 40-60% of 3 consecutive seasons and be a serious footballer. Best ability is availability.

His talent is also not astronomical enough to warrant blind patience. He’s not a Robben.

His talent is insane. I’m tired of you dunking on him while he’s injured

If Xavi gives up on the idea of playing him as a second forward and develops him as a real midfielder he’ll be brilliant

'Best ability is availability' is not really the case.

Even with Pedris injuries would rather have his ability for 40% of games than Romeu for 100% of them.

That is not to say 40% is good enough.. he needs to be available more than that but settling for players who are available and much worse is not better.

I started becoming more vocal about his injuries/absences when they became a pattern. 1st season was okay with me, 2nd consecutive season slight red flag, 3rd straight season is time for concern.

In his last 4.3 seasons, he's played 37, 52, 22, 35, and 2 (out of ~15 so far) games. Robben during his PSV and Chelsea stint played 41, 34, 29, 40, 37 games in those 5 seasons, and he had a rep for being unreliable in that time. Pedri's basically on track to hit those numbers (or even a little below that) and we're supposed to keep giving him a blind pass? I'm not saying we sell him. I'm just saying if this keeps up, he can't be counted on (like Dembele) a reliable star that will lead us to a major trophy....
