Agreed! Ego and power! Do you think Tebas will get re-elected?
Madridistas must be happy he destroyed Barca but anyone with a brain cell wouldn't be on his side. He will destroy LaLiga.
So yes he will stay haha.

Ppl blaming Tebas because Barca can't follow rules
It's actually hilarious lmfao
Renewing Messi would be good for balancing the books btw

Rules which were made for different times.
Yeah that's true. Apparently letting Messi become free agent was huge mistake. Then the signing became complicated.
The club?s financial situation dictated a period of financial austerity.. Extending a player who would have added another 50,000,000 euro per annum to the wage bill made little sense taking into account Tebas? bureaucratic salary cap. We can hardly afford the wages we currently have on the books. Cutting expenditures was a necessary evil. I would have made the same decision had I been in charge. Why? The silver lining is that we are laying the foundation for the next great generation at Barcelona. No one in the press asked him why he let Messi's contract expires when he could have renewed him without any problem if he didn't.
Bartomeu asked him but Laporta never replied
Sad!

How?

For context, We had losses of 481m euro in the 20/21 season. Difficult decisions had to be made. Time to move on Messigician. Haha
First, we had a 481m euro loss in 20/21. That?s close to half a billion euro in a single fiscal year. Extending a 34 year old player on astronomical wages would have been irresponsible. In addition, had we extended Messi, we would have been way beyond the limit of the salary cap, which is a reality we must adapt to. In addition, extending Messi would have made it more difficult to bring in new players, such as Aguero, Depay, Garcia, and now Torres, while also extending important contracts (Pedri, Fati). It is what it is!That doesnt add up.
There would not have been another 50m added to 20/21 when Messi had been paid for that season anyway but Messi brings more money in to club that would never have been a 50m lost.
Not the 300m Laporta claimed but more than 50m and particularly when consider would almost certainly have been in next round of CL etc.
Barca could have renewed Messi before contract expired and been positive for finances.
The 481m loss was also due in part to the club deciding to write off some losses thinking they could pin accounts on previous board and start afresh the next season.
Our losses in 20/21 forced our hand. In fact, a 112m euro loss has already been forecasted for 2022. 50m+ more would therefore be allocated to forecasted loss in 2022 if we had extended Messi?s contract. . Again, during a time in which we should be investing in the new generation of the club. The loss in 2021 was due to a lot of factors...including covid and losses being taken which would have been less of issue going forward.
You are wrong on it adding to 20/21 accounts and another 50m.
While Messi would cover that 50m anyway this season and beyond. You act like Messi brings nothing financially to the club.
The issue would be renewing a 34 year old Messi for financial reasons ahead of sporting ones when teams needs rebuilt.

Also, I?m unaware when Barcelona?s fiscal year ends. It is possible that a chunk of his salary from the extension would have been added onto the books of 2021! If not, my point still stands. Adding Messi?s new salary to the books would have increased our wage expenditures in relation to income, making it more difficult to comply with La Liga?s financial fair play regulations, while also adding an additional 50m+ euro to our net loss in 2022.
I am not so sure we would have qualified for the champion?s league had Messi stayed. It?s by no means a guarantee. Then the question becomes, how else does he generate guaranteed revenue during a pandemic?
Of course there would have been a hit. A 50,000,000 euro hit per annum. It?s not about whether we could have extended Messi?s contract; it?s about it being blatantly irresponsible to do so. Add the salary cap into the equation with an additional 50,000,000 salary expenditure. We can hardly manage as it stands right now.Barca could have renewed Messi and it would not have been a hit financially this season or coming ones.
Barca most likely qualify for CL. Fans in stadium. Sponsorship etc.
The 20/21 losses didnt force Barcas hand. They could have renewed him regardless and it would not have added to those losses.
