6 - Gavi

Dr. Ricard Pruna diagnosed Gavi with a small knee tear last August and advised surgery, but physiotherapist Raúl Martínez who has significant influence within the club pushed for physical therapy, which Gavi chose. A surgery as suggested by Dr. Pruna then would have sidelined him for only about 5 weeks. [Ivan San Antonio - @sport]

Can they ever make a right decision?

Always conflict interest when surgeons make their bags doing surgeries.

Honestly 1 more knee injury and he is in Fati territory.

Knee injuries aren't the same as chronic muscle injuries like say Olmo. He can get 20 and be fine. But a knee is never the same. He already will never be the Gavi he could have been

Same thing every time.
FDJ went for a conservative approach and it worked out for the better.

Issue is it sometimes demands a bit more patience, which is hard with athletes.

Every surgery takes a toll on the joint and leaves you with scar tissue. Even ACL ruptures are starting more and more to be conservatively healed, with new rehab techniques showing really promising results.

Patience being the key part for sure. Surgery is always a bigger risk, so I understand why they don't want to do it and would prefer conservative treatment.

FDJ is lucky things turned out well, I think even Koeman mentioned it could be a chronic issue. Luckily the ankle seems to be fine now.b
