4 - Ronald Araújo

Don Juan Laporta Estruch

Basta yaaaaaaa, Cabron ! y Bona nit 🥂
Those people who don't think we can get 50m for him have discounted the ego of managers who look at a player and think " I can make him a beast ".

The ego that made Kai Havertz move to a bigger club after a shockingly bad season at Chelsea and for the princely sum of 65m.

You can sure as hell be sure that there are managers looking at Araujo yesterday and thinking " I can get him back to his level under Xavi when he was one of the best in the world.".

And there are others looking at Fermin thinking, " I can get him to score 20 goals next season from midfield. "

This is how the transfer market works, not your armchair pundit who sees a player have a bad performance and thinks " He's shit. Out of my club . Sell him for 10m! ".

In short, stop undervaluing our players in comparison to their true market value and in comparison to players at other clubs.

Would open up all kind of possibilities for us if he leaves... hopefully we can work something out. He was on the verge already, so shouldn't be too hard to convince.

A couple seasons ago he seemed like he was one of the best in the world. Looks like he is on a sharp decline.
A good example of a defender's performance based on systems. While Xavi's system favoured his great physique, Flick needs smart defenders who understand offside traps and positioning above anything else.
That's why I think for the right team, he's still worth 50m fee. It's not like he's a worse defender now than he was under Xavi. He just doesn't suit for Flick's high line, as he strengths are clearly not his mind.

It's more than the system though. The two errors on Tuesday weren't high line stuff, just basic defending. Maybe lack of minutes has dulled his sharpness or maybe confidence but he definitely isn't the player he was. He could get that back to that but it's a gamble for someone.

I think if a player isn't comfortable in a system, he tends to make more mistakes regardless. If you feel confident, you play automatically better. If Araujo is overwhelmed with Flick's orders in his head, constantly thinking about where to be, how to move, it will influence his general performance as well.
A lack of minutes plays a role too probably, as it's harder to keep the rhythm the fewer minutes you get.

In my opinion, Araujo is simply too slow in his head and that results in failed offside traps, bad positioning and other game losing mistakes. As long as his job is simply to defend in a classic, straight forward way, he's still one of the best in the world due to his massive physique and fast speed obviously. But if Flick is gonna stay, Araujo should probably leave.

Xavi system favored him in the first season when we often played defensive pragmatic football, as it was seen by Xavi to be needed to win the championship. In the 2nd season, when Xavi wanted to play more offensively, defense went bad. Under more pressure, Araujo and Stegen started dropping stinkers.

This is how I remember it, and if I look for stats, I'm sure they check out and mark a big drop in performances.

I have just seen the goals again à tête reposé. IN the 4th goal, The way thuram sent him to mars with that basic elementary shoulder drop is straight pain. Arujo is done at barca. He needs to find his boots somewhere else.

Don't think Araujo stock was too high with Flick in recent months. He didn't play all that much since recovering.
Unfortunately Inigo had discomfort and hand was forced.

I am disappointed as I was his fan. If we do sell we need to go for a big man, preferably left footed as Inigo won't play for much longer either.

His lack of self-criticism is something else. Saw the reporter ask him a question about the third goal and he responded basically that it was unlucky (third goal). On top of being a low IQ, bad technique defender, he doesn't admit his own mistakes. How is he supposed to improve if he's so delusional? Fuck out of this team man, Barca needs better than that, literally pick a defender from Las Palmas or Celta or any other La Liga team over this fool. What's the point of having that physical body if he gets pushed over like a sissy.
