Perhaps the thing some identified while Frankie and Pedri were out is true. we were a better team without them on the field.
Frankie is too anonymous most of the time. Pedri is too slow and casual.
Sergi Roberto for all his faults makes runs all the time and hardly makes mistakes passing. Christensen is an actual defender so his contribution in midfield was invaluable and kudos to Xavi for using him there.

All in all, a less technical midfield of gundo, chris, bob proved to be a better midfield than gundo, pedri, fdj.

Xavi was blamed for supporting the sale of De Jong to United 2 years ago in a big money deal. He likely knew that his profile is not needed at the club.

I supported De Jong, but there is no progress, and his limitations that existed 3 years ago, also exist now. He didn't improve at all in any area. Still modest offensive participation, still has moments where his defending is simply bad, still takes too many touches and so on.

Araujo fucked up with the pass and the foul.

But on a tactical level the biggest reason for all that is this guy, who wasn't doing is job as DM which is to link the defensive and Midfield, he wasn't showing for the ball and the few times he did, he didn't know how to progress it.

So the defender had to take things in his own hands, he made a shittty decision yes, but if de jong was doing his job, he would she just passed it on to him..

To be fair, Pedri and De Jong did just come back from injuries. If we could start the same lineup as for the first leg, I would have.

Frenkie de Injured... again.
Not that he was of much use this season... Run of the mill box to box midfielder and most often than not a headless chicken in big games. Last season the presence of Busquets and Gavi made him shine. This season he's a shadow of his last season's self like most of our players.
I guess at least he's earning some good money for watching Barca games from the sidelines.
TBH I'll be amazed if Barca gets anything over 50 mil for Mr Glass legs... Fingers crossed.

Looked painful. Don't think we can blame him much for that injury, and with a proper defensive minded midfield in today with Christensen, his tracking back looked purposeful.

Good half and we were comfortable while he and Christensen were on the pitch imo.

FDJ is elite stuff but is more of a box to box than DM or CAM as Barcelona want him to be from time to time.
Is not like he received any decent time or training as DM.. Also Amigo muscles like Busquets don't help.
He is just very flimsy compared to Ajax.

And box to box is too little too late as gsme play. I mean we probably ruined the best mid of his generation.
