He may be injured but he's not in crutches. Adapting entails more than just partaking in official/training matches, it also involves team talks, familiarising with teammates, coaching staff, club culture, warm-ups, tactical briefings etc - all of which he can do while still being "injured". Lovely jubbly isn't it.
Secondly we don't yet know the extent of his injury, its possible he could be back soon given he'll be flying with the squad for the pre-season tour (if the reports are correct).
