Not really IMO. He had like 3 potentially fatal mistakes.
That said, none of those 2 should sniff a starting CB position, if we get a RB.
Have a feeling this guy will be a huge liability over the season. Balde's minutes will have to be carefully managed to give him rest in the easier games to keep him fit. I don't want to see Alonso anywhere near the LB position against a better team.
Next season we'll need a new backup LB. Not a lot of great names on the outgoing contracts list though. The most well known are Spinazzola, Miranda and Telles.

Could as well give a chance to Valle instead. Give him another season on loan and see how he develops.
More likely though, contracts of players like Bernat, Acuna, Jonny Otto and Tagliafico (Reguilon, Borna Sosa and our old friend Junior Firpo as well if we're looking at players not already in their thirties) are expiring in 2025 so we could try to get one of them for cheap next year. Ofc some of them will probably change clubs in next 6-12 months though so they could not be available.
Don't think it will happen (especially now that we've signed Inigo as a left-footed CB) and I don't see us spending big on a backup LB so alternative could be a hybrid LCB/LB like Hincapie if he'll still be at Bayer next year. Probably too expensive as we'll have other more urgent needs and still not too much money to spend though. But if Xavi figures out this season he wants to play more with 3 atb then he'd be a great signing imo.
As for this season if we can get Cancelo on loan (very unlikely imo) then he could cover LB too if/when needed. Would definitely play Kounde RB/Cancelo LB over Cancelo RB/Alonso LB.

He's so damn slow and gets folded like a lawn chair by anyone with either pace or half-decent dribbling skills.
Balde was always going to be a starter but this guy is nowhere near proper adequate backup. Probably one of if not the worst LBs we have ever had in the last 20 years at this point. He just sticks out like a sore thumb with his limited skill set.

Hopefully one/both get a chance versus Madrid. I get that Charvy Grass gets to see them in training, but would be nice for us to see some proper opportunities like in the old days, when we would go to the Netherlands for early pre-season games and have alot of the B team lads get a shot.

Alonso was hardly a LB in a traditional sense for Chelsea even in his prime. Always played as a wing-back or benched in a back four.
Shouldn't come as a surprise that he's shit for us there too. Also trying to convert him to a CB when he's always been bad defensively is hilarious.
