14 - Marcus Rashford

I'm just glad we didn't flush 60m down the toilet on that pub player from Bilbao, like our Sporting Department wanted to.

Anything from then on in, I see as a win. :biden:
Well, I certainly agree on that

I should clarify my position. I think Rashford can contribute and help the team. But I get the feeling some people here are hoping for big moments in massive games, and I am not sure that will happen.

But he can contribute across a season. But it's very doubtful he's come close to a Raphinha type impact of last season. Chiefly because he won't play enough, I guess.

Didn't watch, but reading reactions here, it seems he had a stinker

Early days still...
Just a bit of banter from some boys.

But yeah, it's extremely early. I think he can be a contributor over the season but I'd be surprised if he's a key, integral player. That's just my opinion, though.

Do you guys think he's likely to get many starts this season? What's the likelihood he takes Raphinha's spot in important games? It would require a regression from Raph and improvement from Rash.

We were blessed with lack of injuries last season. I believe he will get a period during the season where he starts multiple games in a row.

He won't take Raphinha's place but Raphinha could be moved to CAM if Rashford provides more than Olmo, Fermin or Gavi does at 10.

True, fair point.

It's nice to have options anyway. So much can happen through a season so will have to wait. Injuries, performances, formation shifts can all affect it.

Rashford should be at his best when Barca are ahead and teams have to take more risks and open up to try and get back in it. His pace off bench should in theory be a big asset then.

Mallorca when down to 9 just gave up trying to go forward more or less and tried to avoid an embarrassment while Barca in the heat just played game out.. even if Flick not amused.

I appreciate people dreaming big, but there is no evidence in recent past of him that justifies thinking he could play over last season's best attacking player.

I expect him to have the same impact as Joao Felix with probably better numbers due to the fact that Flick's team is way more attacking than Xavi's Barça.

Type of player that never made the step from a big talent to a big player, who will rely on the talent part majority of his career.

However, he is an improvement over last seasons options that should help to give Raphinha and Lamine more rest. Don't see him starting in big games if everyone is fit.

Also feel his weak first touch will hold him down from having more success here.

Flick: "Rashford's position? He’s a good alternative at number nine. He gives us more options. I know he feels better playing as a winger, but his strengths are speed, first touch… He helps us a lot in our style of play. We could have a fantastic Rashford this season, at 100%."

Still, squad players can be big contributors from the bench. That's what we brought him for. To give us options from the bench when needed.

If he can replicate 80% of what Ferran did last summer, while front line maintaining the same level as last year, we probably will be in UCL final then come May 2026.
Which is all we need him to do.
