14 - Marcus Rashford

Genrally, Olmo, Pedri, Yamal is the trio you want to rely on when so-called needle passing is needed, combinations on short spaces, maneuvering through tight lines. Players like Raphinha, Fermin, Rashford, those are the type of players you have to put to good use when the game opens up more, in a premier league style so to speak.

Raphinha is an exception because he has executions. Even in a bad game he will pop with 2-3 top crosses, or a well taken shot, he has the delivery that Rashford lacks imo.

Have to remember too that game state can fluctuate - a game can be all about one team dominating and the other team denying space. Then based on a goal, or a sub, it can become a basketball game with space opening up. Football and game state is not static, but fluid and dynamic.

So guys like Rashford - while limited - will always have some use in certain situations.

For me, the set-up vs defensive teams is the same as last season, nothing changed. Pedri - De Jong deep, Olmo higher, Raphinha left, Yamal right, with either Lewandowski or Ferran as 9. Neither Fermin, nor Rashford can get in and provide a big impact in that scenario.

In my experience, it takes more than one goal to make a team like Getafe or Levante attack you full on. At 0-1, they will still keep their shape and hope to snatch one against run of play. A bigger team will react more darginly even if slightly behind.

Levante barely left shape even at 2-3 in the last 3-4 minutes.

yeah I agree - I had more in mind latter stages of the CL type of games against opponents with more parity.

Didnt think Rashford was bad and connected a few times with Balde but as said it made sense to go back to the set up of last season at HT.

That pitch didnt help getting ball out early to wide players on either side or them trying to carry it.

Were better when got it wide and got it in early.

He wasn't bad for me either, beat his man two times, but with poor final decision, was overall pretty active, but also played it safe almost all the time with his passes. Very few moments where he actually connected with a progressive pass.

Just think it's a bit too much money to pay to a guy who is only very useful in very specific scenarios.
But Mara, the thing is, I can't seem to find a player that does what Rashy is bad at around the same price range. So about 10-14m range.
Nico - He rejected us.
Diaz - Ya we broke.
Leao - We broke.
Gittens - Expensive and might have the same issue
Baena - He's more of a AM than a LW

Some of them that comes to mind for me will be:
Ben Seghir, Paixao, Almada. They may be in the same price range, but they also have that uncertainty. On top, they will have a 4-5 year contract guaranteed.
But I cant seem to find a player better than Rashy in Low blocks and doesn't cost us upwards of 20m+ year in FFP.
Good thing is, he's only here for a year, we have no obligations to pay him next year. And with a Camp Nou and 1:1 rule sorted, I am sure Fatporta would again try for a LW next summer, if Rashford doesn't pan out.

Yes it would have been better if his wages were around the 10m mark. But it is what it is, he's a short term solution, and if he improves, he can easily be a longer term one. But for now, he is a body that can occupy a spot on the pitch for at least 60 minutes a game. Which is what all I care about. Rotation and rest to our front players is the utmost necessity, and we have enough match winners that can carry Rashford's ass if needed. It won't be the other way round. And that's my and most posters' point here.
Its honestly a win win for us.

He needs time to “adjust” is the funniest excuse Barca fans are making after his horrible terrible display yesterday.

24 million euros, loaning a United reject. About 400K every week, lets give him the time to “adjust” as we cant even register Tek and Roony is quite pathetic, another Deco masterclass. We would have been better of with Zaragoza or something.

400k a week? Really? Surely not, that must be wrong. He's a 150k a week at best player.

Where did you get the 24m figure?

This has already been denied, by none other than the athletic who are far more reliable than Romano who is more of aggregator this days and will say things to please clubs
Romano nowadays is business, well-connected, far removed from that sniffing journalist he was in his early days.
