The key is that playing for a club like United for a while has burnt him out, I think the opportunity of playing for Barca will rejuvenate him, he is looking for motivation and the chance to truly compete.
Football at United wasn't very exciting and I can hardly blame him. When a very good player plays with bad ones for so long, they can be swallowed up by that, they acclimatise to bad players and bad patterns.
