Depending on the CL outcome, I only see a couple of contenders for Bdor
Messi, currently easily number one but we need to reach the final and grap the domestic double.
F. de Jong, de Ligt, VVD, Sterling are all close contenders but only when they win the CL. Only then they can top Messi based on team performance and winning CL.

There's no realistic contender for Ballon d'Or now. Maybe Salah because of the hype he's gotten since last year.
Others will never surpass Messi in a vote, doesn't matter if they win PL+CL.

No sane person would vote for Sterling as the best player on the planet, lol.

Correct, but history shows us that people are not as sane as we believe (Modric, Ronaldo & Trump voting).
99% on this board believes Messi is the absolute GOAT, why does the world doesn't believe the same?

Yes it does, anyone who is even somewhat invested in football and has half a brain, doesn't even question who the goat is.

If Messi makes CL final he is the winner. If not and Liverpool or ManC wins everything, there's good chance OneDick or Sterling/Aguero gets it.

So I figured we should take a look at Messi vs Pelé today, on club level Messi has now caught up to Pelé in terms of goals scored at the same age, Cristiano is irrelevant as he is more than 100 goals behind.

Messi's stats only count FC Barcelona games and goals and the same for Pelé's stats which are only for Santos, caveat is that Messi has yet to finish his season before turning 32, and Pelé's stats include goals scored for about 6 weeks playing with Santos after turning 32.

First we look at games played and goals scored up to the age of 25

Pelé

350 games played
463 goals scored
239 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,68

Messi

329 games played
253 goals scored
159 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,48

Second we look at games played and goals scored between the age of 25 and 32

Pelé

230 games played
141 goals scored
108 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,47

Messi

350 games played
344 goals scored
219 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,63

Third we look at games played and goals scored for their whole career up to the age of 32

Pelé

580 games played
603 goals scored
347 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,60

Messi

679 games played
597 goals scored
378 games scoring

games scoring to games played ratio 0,56

TDLR; Messi has been improving continuously up into his 30s while Pelé droped of a cliff after 25. This current season Messi has scored in 28 of 42 games played for a 0,67 ratio while Pelé at the same age scored in 11 of 36 games played for a ratio of 0,31

just cant shake the feeling he could have had 3-4 more goals easily if he just wanted, and compete with cr7s record. Its nice to help your team mates, but sometimes its best they do it on their own, coutinho is a grown man, there is no need more to give him presents like that.

maybe vvd if he wins the double, but all the others are not even close.

i think the only threat on Messi's 6th ballon d'or at this stage is City pulling off the quadruple.. i don't think a double would be enough for a CB to win it after the numbers Messi is putting up this season

if City exit tonight and we get past Liverpool, it could be a landslide ballon d'or victory for Messi
