The thing is....they hardly have to talk to the media anyways the coming months since the next fixture is in March. By that time things are probably resolved. So basically the boycott only served for this particular media conference.
they said they weren't gonna adress the media so its kinda hard to determine whether this will be just a one time thing or a longterm boycott

Some background:

  • This was right after Argentina won the U20 World Cup in Holland with Messi getting the golden boot and the golden ball.
  • He had just begun to play for Barcelona but wasn't starting yet and had only a few appearances.
  • The interview is done in Argentina, which is why it's winter right after the World Cup.

Highlights:

  • After he returned from the World Cup to stay in Argentina for a while, Messi's friends would no longer let him play football with them because they were afraid he would get hurt.
  • He got his first game at age 4 when his grandmother insisted the coach of the team of five-year-olds who were playing use Messi when they were down a player. Messi was not on any team and just watching with his grandmother. After resisting the coach finally took little Messi. He scored 2 goals. He had never trained before.
  • The other boys at La Masia were real little assholes to Messi when he first came. They would only speak Catalan around him, which he didn't understand, they would ignore him even when they played and wouldn't pass to him. (He says he understands Catalan perfectly at the time of the interview, but is too embarrassed to try to speak it.)
  • He rooms with Kun Agüero on international duty, but they have problems because they are fierce playstation competitors and when one wins he gloats and mocks the loser. Kun tried to make a rule that they should play and not be jerks about it but it didn't work.
  • Messi's first goal for Barcelona was wrongly called offside and Messi was furious and cursed out the linesman. He scored another, similar, goal in the same match but says he liked the first one much better.
  • The interviewer keeps begging Messi to do some tricks with the ball and show him something, but Messi insists he can't do anything, then says he won't be able to do anything because he's wearing jeans, and eventually relents and does a few Ronaldinho/Maradona beauties.

(By the way, Messi did debut for Argentina senior team playing Hungary, but it only lasted 40 seconds, when he got his first and only red card.)

Here's a Part II of sorts, when they returned to interview Messi in 2007 in Barcelona, after he had become a starter and had played in the senior World Cup for Argentina. Unfortunalty, it's in Spanish with no English sub...

Argentina National Team's security told Messi (while in Brazil) that AFA had not paid them in 6 months. Messi paid them.

The AFA is a disgrace, not a surprise though as is everything run by argentinians completely blind to their own flaws.

Barca should think of a way to keep messi here after retirement.. after that horrible stunt rossel pulled on cruyf no one is more worthy than messi to be a honorary president but it will be kinda awkward considering his age

Great gesture from him, but it seems like they told him with intention that he will pay.

Completely false... They asked him as captain of the team to talk with the AFA directives, but instead he called his father and had him transfer the money...
