10 - Lamine Yamal

More worrying signs imo. Plays like a less talented Neymar. Somewhat closer to Robinho. Needs to snap out of this playing into his comfort zone.

He makes almost no runs. Wants ball to feet to do his thing with it.

We are all a bit harsh as he is only 18y old and we probably expect too much from him. However, I agree there is a room for improvement. Another important thing for his development is that club and people around him need to stop kissing his ass. He is not Messi and he sholud not act like Messi on the field.

He had some great runs where he showcased not just dribbling ability but even better pace with the ball and strength to knock down defenders.

I like what I saw from him today. I think he is continuing to evolve. It's been said a million times but it's worth reminding people that he is just 18. He needs at least 3-4 more years before he brings every facet of the game to a top class level. Even then his proclivity is to dribble, drisrupt and create - not run behind the defense and score goals.

But his talent is mesmerizing.
0:35 insane change of direction. 1:12 Look at the darting pace, almost balde-like. 2:10 & 2:37 Look at how he rides challenges and invites physicality; this is something he avoided before.

Lamine is the last player I’m worried about on the team. His talent speaks for itself. What’s actually worrying that we’re not surrounding him by players close to his level to take advantage of how good he is. Messi was combining with xavi, iniesta, and dani alves. Only other player we have close to that level rn is pedri. It’s so sad to see how much the standard has dropped

Good thing is Yamal is still very young. There are lot of time ahead.

10 Laliga apps, 12 goals and assists.

With a healthy Yamal then chance of defending tittle is high.

UCL is tricky though.

About right so far with how he plays. Few runs, expects ball to feet, minimal off the ball work, defends when he feels like if he feels like. So, like a less effective Neymar style player, equally skinny and waiting for the skightest contact to go down milking fouls. So... Spanish Robinho. He is very young and he can mature by fixing some bad habits.

I don't see any development at all compared to last season. He's shooting is far worse as he skies a lot of his shots, he does everything worse.

It is not about expecting too much. Quite the contrary, I don't expect him to dribble 3 players constantly, but I do expect him to make more runs in space and to help in defense. This ball hog act needs to stop.

We have two losses vs Chelsea and PSG in CL and his direct opponent was probably man of the match in both, both Mendes and Cucurella. We actually looked faster when he didn't play vs Newcastle, probably our best game this season vs a strong opponent.
