Lamine on fire 🔥
“My life has changed in every way. Before, I could do whatever I wanted: I could go out for drinks with my friends, but now that's no longer possible. I remember training this summer in Korea, Japan, and China—it was impossible to go anywhere. But I'm happy,” says Lamine Yamal, summarizing his meteoric rise.
The reigning Golden Boy also spoke openly about his family's migration: “My grandmother secretly got on a bus in Morocco and made it to Mataró. She worked three shifts so that my father, who had stayed in Morocco, could follow. When my grandmother had some money, she paid a woman to bring my father and his sister—they were three years old at the time.
About the attack on his father:
The 18-year-old never doubted his career: "One day I called my mother and said, ‘Mom, I'm going to school, but I'm not doing anything. I'm just preparing for training in the afternoon.’ And she said, ‘What have you taken?’ I replied, 'When I concentrate, I become a soccer player. I don't recommend this to anyone, but it was my dream – and I did it."
The news that his father had been stabbed was dramatic. "I was in the car with my cousin Moha. I had CarPlay on, which connects your phone to the speakers, and my cousin, who was in Morocco, called me. She asked, ‘Are you alone?’ and started telling me about it. More calls came in. I was 16 at the time. It was a tough time, and I had training the next day. Then my father called and said he was fine and that I should stay calm. The next day, I visited him in the hospital, and everything calmed down."
About the lies about his birthday party:
He also commented on the headlines surrounding his birthday party: “I wasn't angry. In the end, they tried to damage my reputation in many ways. In the days leading up to my birthday party, a woman came forward and told lies that I had chosen the girls in this or that way. It didn't make any sense.”
The Spanish European champion concluded by adding: “I don't care what anyone says about me. I'm used to it. Have you ever seen other 18-year-olds going to parties or having girlfriends?”
