That counts for shit though. Most important is winning big titles with your team, and then winning individual accolades as a reward of that. This is the natural path to absolute success. Not some fan perception of who is the best player on the planet.

Yamal would be the no1 player any team would take.

Absolutely. Those always have a chip on their shoulder, and are basically not that confident in their ability to get in a position to win again. That's why they moan. They got close and fear they will never get as close again.

He can win a BD even on his current level if somehow a team wins CL without some standout performers. A bit like the Chelsea that won in 2021 I think. A player like Jorginho would have never won BD or be considered the best in the world.

In a season like last year, with PSG star players playing some superb football when it mattered and no bigger competition than CL being played, no chance Yamal wins.

No doubt, I was speaking more of a regular non WC year. Whoever has a superb WC can win it. If it leads to a win it's a huge advantage and almost a sealed Ballon d'Or.
