10 - Lamine Yamal

The issue with Lamine is physical right now.

Can anybody remember how poor Frenkie was last season before he was 100% fit and trusted his ankle?

Lamine is in a similar situation right now. Not as sharp, not as confident in his movements and it shows.

And let's not forget he is just 18.

This is one of those lulls before he recovers and jumps to the next level.

Don't be so hasty. Don't be a Donald.

Before that injury with Spain, he was rapid with the ball and made multiple sprints when he dribbled. Now he is still not yet at his pre injury level.

And playing alone on the wing, with at least two players marking him doesn't help either.

A good few times yesterday he was being marked like that and managed to get the ball into likes of Fermin in space... who had absolutely no clue what to do with ball to open up the game.

Fermin is more like a second striker with work rate than a AM really in way he plays but at times Barca needed more awareness and pause in that area.

Teams need to be punished elsewhere if are going to mark Yamal like that and Barca couldnt do it yesterday.

Barca looked better once Yamal was given more freedom away from touchline. That needs to happen more often as an option.

Lack of common sense and immaturity have ruined the careers of many promising footballers. Lamine has a long road ahead of him.. Compared to this, the careers of players like Lewandowski, Messi, and even Ronaldo look brilliant—both professionally and personally.......

Yep.

Don't get me wrong, since recovering from injury his decision making hasn't been good either.

But again, I think this is all playing into the physical aspect and being able to exert his game how he wants to.

And as Jammy said, inspite of all this he is still providing moments of magic which the team needed to capitalize on better.

My problem with him is his attitude, he has shown to be completely immature and has 0 class.

Even considering his age.

There are many people like him who change with time and grow up but there are also many who don't and stay like that.

If he doesn't work on this alot and surround himself with people that have a positive influence on him (which I assume is not the case at the moment) he will ruin his career.

Those last ten minutes he was very good at AM.

He has the vision, maturity and decision making to play there. Would be Barcas best AM if he did... but obviously missed on wing.

Can be an option though with Raphinha on RW bit of freedom to move off it with Yamal in middle and then Rashford on the left.

Attacking Midfielders can't be passengers off the ball in today's game. You have to press and defend as a number 10.

Yep. He looks way more lively when he plays in centre rather than on the wing this game. More options for him. His only left foot isn't much a problem for his playmaking from centre.

He certainly needs to improve his off ball movement like running behind defense and pressing from front line. But the potential is too much to ignore.

This not the claim arrogantly made about Messi in 2022?

That worked out well for you.

Anyway.. he does press.

Also... every player has to press to some extent if they are a winger or an AM.

If anything there is more pressing and tracking back required from out wide.

Definitely more pressing required from out wide considering most teams favor attacking full backs that leave space behind them.

The middle is usually congested.
