1 - Marc-Andre ter Stegen

You can play hardball and it might work given he's Germany's number 1 (fucking hell), but there's a good chance we will be stuck with him. He won't get 42m anywhere else (remaing contract).

Compromises are part of the real world.

He doesn't strike me as the type of guy who will sit on his ass until 2028 to collect it all.

I think if he stays and sits on the bench until January he will agree to leave and only be paid what he's due this season + whatever is deferred, but nothing more.

Dude has all the power. He’s sitting on a huge contract, 42m remaining (?)… so if we want him to fuck off, we will most likely have to pay out the difference between what his new club pays and what we would have paid him.

I get the argument they it’s a World Cup year, and he’s finally Germany’s #1 after having waited for so long, but no player is gonna give up 10-20m. Right? 🥹

The reason why it’s easier for some clubs like City, for example, to move players on is because they can just pay them to fuck off. Thinking about De Bruyne. We are broke af. We ain’t paying Stegen 20m to vacation in Naples, are we?

But let’s see. Maybe the guy isn’t driven by money. I just always assume that most ppl are, especially when we are talking about these large sums of money. Money talks.

42m is a huge amount of money for a 33 yo.

Can't remember anyone paying unearned wages to a player in a similar situation.
Clubs do that occasionally. Either through loans with part of their wages covered or deals to push them out.

But nobody as often as us. That just shows we consistently overvalue our players and our projections suck.

He still has deferred wages is my understanding, that's the only thing we should pay him, fucking Barto.

But as it relates to paying him for future years of his contract, fuck no.

Most we'll do is release you on a free since no one would actually buy him.

We are not talking about a loan, the idea is to pay him his future wages that he hasn't earned (yet) so he would fuck off while having all the leverage to end his career, a plus is also that the position is goalkeeper where he won't even get rotational minutes like on the pitch players do. If he decides to fuck with us we can sit him on the stands for 4 whole years (he already did 1).

If we are firm, he'll leave but he knows we won't be so he'll collect our paycheck and then get another for the same seasons from another employer. It's genius from his side and retarded from the clubs but we're used to it.

Pay him everything that he's earned up until this summer and offer him to leave for free, that's more than fair. We could even demand a transfer fee if he tries to fuck us and cement his retirament.

If he is going to demand to collect most of his salary until 2028 then we might as well keep him and see if he runs out of patience.

Would be a good 3rd GK.

Yeah, no upside in paying him his salary until 2028 and let him leave. Use him as a janitor instead. Or maybe one of those human statues that are in La Rambla, I have a feeling he would be amazing at it.

As much as I want ter Stegen gone you cannot blame him or any other player for the club being unable to close signings or make any due to the salary cap situation…

The only upside is that we don't need to pay him if we terminate his contract. We could refuse to pay, get it stuck in litigation and then reach settlement years later like Matheus Fernandes.

It's not a good look, but hey, broke gotta broke.
