Bravo and Mats didn't compete for anything. They had set roles and no matter how either one played those roles were not changing. Bojan might have something to say about it because of his raging hate-boner for Mats but Cillessen really would weaken us if he got that kind of responsibility.

He clearly understands the role he was signed for. Both Mats and Bravo signed here with the understanding that they'd be our first choice. Mats has the #1 jersey despite his inconsistent playing time, even. Not the same situation at all.

Doubt it. His attacking ability isn't on a La Liga level. They recently beat Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. Would they have won that game if Douglas was there? Because I don't think so.

It's easy to look at the worst potential outcome and cry gloom and doom, but in reality Mats is unlikely to receive any injury that leaves us hanging without a goalkeeper for a stretch of games that Cillessen can't handle.

But we have Samper who, as of now, is still part of the squad and is a much more Barca DM for obvious reasons. He's already going to struggle for minutes, it makes more sense to just have Masche and Umtiti rotate and leave the midfield alone.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Umtiti continues to perform while Mascherano is out. Do people ignore the double standard and demand Mascherano get his starting place back, or does he "earn" it with performances on the pitch? And if he has to earn it back, just how well will he need...
