Ronaldo won nothing domestically in 2018 and was poor for a lot of it. Messi completely dominated La Liga. Ronaldo was a passenger in CL final. Bar one game did nothing at the World Cup. The Juve and Spain game carried him that year. -

All depends on longevity. Ronaldo has been playing regularly for Portugal since his teens leading into 2004 Euros. He's nearly 35 now and will probably break the record at 36 if not next year. Given the halo of Maradona (and he was brilliant) you'd think he was the best in the world for a decade rather than a couple of years. Pele difficult to assess as he never played in Europe so outside of Brazil people never watched him outside of World Cups. -
