Transfers and Rumours - old thread

But we had to pay through the nose for Cesc! Arsenal didn't forgive a single cent for him! For a player who wanted to come and wasn't even looking at other offers! Cesc's is precisely the biggest evidence there can be that first refusal deals are an absolute joke.

First refusal options are meaningless. You need both Atlético to want to sell and the player to want to come, and even then it's just a right to match the better offer for him. And that's even if it's true at all, and not wishful thinking.

    Thiago Silva

I don't think Chelsea will sell any starter at any price. And why shouldn't we be the ones going after Mandala, anyway?

    Thiago Silva

No. God no. I've seen tons of young players doing an amazing season only to fail miserably the next six. The only advantage I see on signing Marcos over Thiago Silva is that at least I can imagine Roma selling him, even at a high price, while I don't see Silva being sold at all.

    Thiago Silva

But again... how are we going to convince PSG to sell just for 40 million they don't need? I'll freakin' kiss the ground Rosell treads in if he manages such a miracle, because I just don't see it.

    Thiago Silva

Some of us just think that there's no way we are getting TSilva. Not for 35 mil, not for 135 mil, nor 3500 million euros. That kind of money is chicken feed to them.

But since we have literally less in the CB department than any other team, Bartra leaving means that Tito rates "nothing" in front of him. That can't be good for your ego.

But the kid's contract doesn't run out until 2017. If you were Roma, wouldn't you keep him for a couple seasons and then sell him for a similar, if not bigger price? I would.

Oh. All right. Thanks for clearing that up.

Transfers and Rumours - old thread

I don't think that we are going to sign anybody from clubs owned by the Qatari Royal Family (PSG, Monaco or Manchester City) or Chelsea. Those are the only four clubs in the world with no need for money whatsoever. I mean, everything is possible, I guess, it just looks so incredibly unlikely, I...

    Thiago Translantara

Can we be honest, for once? It's never going to be Cesc's year. He's a CAM playing in a team with no use for one. Look at the way he shined with the Spanish NT playing in his right spot the other day. He never performs at that level playing in other positions at Barcelona. Thiago was, honestly...

    Jeremy Mathieu

Tito trusted more a short, injury-prone fullback doing his first stint as CB better than Bartra. It's safe to say that he's leaving and never coming back.

    Jeremy Mathieu

Yay! Another attacking midfielder to play off position! The dream of having a team comprised 100% of mid fielders nears!

    FC Barcelona B (Barça Atlètic)

I assumed that Bagnack in the B team this season was a given. It would be insane not to.

How many La Liga teams would out play or out pass Swansea?

There's some irregularity about Swansea. But sure, when on fire they aren't easily outplayed. Plenty of sides could win, but only Barcelona and Madrid outpass them. Maybe Rayo.

    Neymar - v2

To me, if anything, it would be the other way around. Neymar is even less of an area man than Messi.

    Cesc Fàbregas

Honest to god, I thought he was excellent against Atlético. Yeah, he wasn't attacking, but he and Iniesta did manage to keep possession away from Atlético, rendering them toothless even with 10 men against 11 and a 3-man defence. A hard working, functional performance that gave us the three...

    Cesc Fàbregas

Not really. Even if we were to start using a double pivot, which we aren't, you would have two playmakers stepping on each other's toes.

2012–13 Season - Successful, Fair or Failure?

Succesful considering the circumstances. I'm not even talking just yet about Tito's cancer. We've had serious trouble from day one, suffering from an inadmissible lack of defensive depth: we didn't buy the (at the very least) world class CB urgently needed for several seasons already, with Zubi...

    Thiago Translantara

He takes risks. Sometimes they pay off, catch the opposition with their guard down and start the counter that provides a match-winning goal. Sometimes he misses. It's not really a big issue with a fully fit defense, but of course, in the state we're in, any ball loss becomes a serious scare.
