I understand Marquinhoa is young and talented but imagine how stupid the board would look if he flopped. A healthy Benatia would be guaranteed top 10 CB for at least three seasons. Marquinhos could turn out to be mediocre or very great. It's a gamble.

50M for Benatia is a better deal than 40M for Marquinhos. Benatia would instantly make our back 4 much better. Meanwhile, Marquinhos is still a raw talent who could turn out to be not as good as we hoped. It's an expensive gamble we shouldn't take. I'd gladly take Marquinhos for 20M but not 40M.

If he goes anywhere besides Barcelona for less than 50M, and Barcelona spend 40M on Marquinhos or get nobody at all; it will be a colossal failure on Zubi's part.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got Marquinhos for 45 million, real got Benatia for 40, and Marquinhos was only decent while Benatia plays amazingly. If there is any chance to sign Benatia, we need to do it ASAP.

I cannot understand this obsession. He's not even a top 10 cb in the world. He could be in the future but nobody knows for sure.

Marquinhos has loads of potential but 40 million maybe more for potential is absurd. He's played a season and a half at a high level and people act like he's as good as Hummels. If we got him for a decent price cool but for around the same price we could get a much better CB that's already proven.

So do we know for sure he's going to be playing a lot less? Rested Xavi can still put in some wonderful performances. Xavi starting every match though would feel like it's just setting us back more. Hopefully Lucho convinced him to take on a reduced role but that he can still really help the team.

Real would be stupid not to try to sign a proper DM in the future if they're planning on getting rid of Khedira. In modern football you can't just rely entirely on your back 4 or even just your CBs to defend.

James could be a phenomenal player for Real in the right system but I don't see how they can accommodate him without sacrificing defensive stability or one of their star attackers. Ronaldo is quite poor as a proper 9. He thrives running into space down the left wing and drifting into the center...

Vlaar was phenomenal but not a Barcelona CB. I hope he goes to Man U and is successful, though.
