I don't think it works like that. If you finish 1st or 8th, you go into the random pot. Equally, 9th doesn't play 24th, 10th doesn't play 23rd etc, it's a random draw between the segments. Open to being corrected if I am wrong, though.

Like I say, upsets are happening a lot right now. 'Lesser' teams seem to be stepping up sometimes in different leagues and Europe. And teams like RM, Arsenal and Man City are in a really bad moment.
