Proving points is for cheap players. Not one of the best paid players in the team. Rather see him leave for a small fee in the summer than in the stands for a season.

De Jong staying or leaving doesn’t affect that, but there are other priorities this summer.

Handing out superstar level salaries to backups is one of the reasons we ended up in this mess. Would be crazy to repeat it.

It’s not him or Casado, they’ll look best together. No other midfielder to form a duo with Frenkie on high enough level. That’s only with Pedri out. He’ll see lots of minutes if he keeps it up.

He’s a backup. We need a player in rotation with Lamine and Raphi. Different quality category altogether.

Both cause anxiety at the back, albeit for different reasons.

No one serious expects him to give it up. Going out on a loan while Barca covers a good chunk of his wages is an option too. Probably the best one we can hope for.

Don’t like him going solo all the time, he’s pushing it and more often than not end ups losing possession. Comes with age, I suppose.
