    Summer Olympics Paris - 2024

You're getting the causality backwards. The state of society is a result of what happens in government, not the other way around. France is not a free country. Political discourse is heavily regulated and dissident groups are routinely banned, and that's before we get into the total control that...

Democracy means rule of the people, not "whoever we can dupe you into voting for can then do whatever they want".

He's German and he falls out with every squad he has.

I doubt it, given that he's 50 years old and played for Ireland. The current rumour is Carsley as interim until Guardiola next summer.

It's a bit classless (like Rodri waffling about Gibraltar), but bans would be crazy in my opinion. This is one of those celebration parallax sort of things where if the very same facts were spoken in praise, suddenly drawing attention to them is OK.

    Phil Foden

He was good against The Netherlands and that's pretty much it. For all his ability, I don't think he's an intelligent footballer. He doesn't find tactical solutions that the coach doesn't find for him. You could easily see Palmer eclipse him at international level.

    Harry Kane

He was poor, and the system didn't suit him, but he still scored as many goals as anyone else at the tournament. Ronaldo couldn't even do the one thing that he should still be good at.

    England

Tuchel would be a disaster given the way he falls out with players, boards and the media, and Klopp I don't think would take it. Personally I would not want a German under any circumstances. Howe and Potter are the only ones with any kind of profile, and I'm not sure either one would be ideal...

Is the power of the English hype machine so great that it controls Barcaforum too? Because when the vote was put up, more people here predicted England to win the tournament than any other team. We have been guilty in the past of massively overrating our players for sure, but Foden was player...

It must very specifically be competitive knock-out games that don't include the last week, but yeah our record against big teams in knock-out competition has not been great with Southgate, and dire before him.

People worry about England being unbearable if we win, but we'd be far more respectful than everyone else is when we lose.

Well done to Spain, they managed the game much better. I do think they are somewhat fortunate that Southgate is so cautious though, as in the limited moments that England actually went for it, it always seemed like a goal would come. I hope this is the end of Southgate, I don't want to hear...

Why did you put the term "purebred" in quotes as if anyone other than you had said it? If we get into this kind of continuum fallacy where ethnic groups don't exist because of some minority admixture, then you basically invalidate the existence of every kind of living thing in the natural world.

    England

Rice isn't really a defensive midfielder, he's an #8 that gets played at #6 because he has a great engine, athleticism and some good defensive instincts. He's more of a luxury version of Henderson than a second rate Rodri.

    Euro 2024

Palmer was in the U21 team that beat Spain 1-0 in the Euros final last year. Foden, Gallagher and Guehi were in the U17 World Cup team that beat Spain 5-2 in the final. It probably won't translate to senior football but I don't have much to cling on to...

How so? That's not how the laws of the game work. I would agree that it's harsh on The Netherlands in the sense that given the way this tournament has been refereed so far you would expect a foul not to be given, but on the other hand if that was anywhere else on the pitch it's a free kick and...
