Ladies and Gentlemen, I come bearing gifts. I have found our ideal centre back signing for next season. And I looked far and wide and found a player most of you have probably never heard of. Now, given it's almost confirmed that our budget will go on a striker, this player has to be a budget option and will cost in the region of only 20m Euros.

His name is Emanuel Fernandez and he plays for Glasgow Rangers. He is 6ft 4, right footed, left sided centre back. Extremely strongly in the air in both boxes. Aggressive, loves a tackle, but not carelessly so. Quick. Physically a beast.

But perhaps his greatest attribute is his ability on the ball, it's incredibly high for a centre back. Super calm in possession, great spatial awareness and press resistant. Could easily slot in and play as an out and out CDM. Premier League clubs and Bayern / Dortmund are already interested, so if he fails the loss will only be around 5m Euro on the transfer.

Only real downside is the level he has played at so far in his career. Scotland is the highest. He was literally playing non league 3 years ago in England. But you just have to watch him play. The guy stands out a mile and is a very unique player who if he continues to progress can become one of the best in the world.

Best compliment I can give him is he reminds me of Van Dijk when he was at Celtic. Go check him out. He's the one to take a punt on for sure.
Add Senesi to the mix, and we might be good to go for cheap.

I also liked Chermiti everytime I have seen Rangers this season. But from reading up this seems to have coincided with his hotstreak.

Seems though SPL despite it's limitations can give a nice platform for players to grow. Igamane was doing great for Lille until his injury this season, and he was signed from Rangers in the summer.
Chermiti isn't that good in my opinion - he's definitely having a bit of a purple patch spell though - typical of this new Rangers board to spend a fortune (by Scottish standards) on Chermiti when as you imply Igamane was likely a better striker. But I am not as familiar with who wanted to be there and who didn't.

That Fernandez that @Don Juan Laporta Estruch mentions does stand out in the Rangers team - but, as people say, Rangers and Celtic are very bad right now. The two Old Firm games in the last 10 days Rangers dominated other than the second half of the league game, but missed plenty of chances. Celtic just hung in the games and got results. And I don't know if you are familiar with the events after the game on Sunday, but's been terrible.

I always like reading what Don has to say but I am not as enthused as him on Fernandez. He's definitely too good for Scottish football from what I have seen, but Barca? Not sure personally. Would love to be proven wrong.

In case anyone is interested - here's his thread from one of the two big Rangers forums. They seem to like him in the main

Dont watch too much Scottish football now as the level is so bad but he has been linked to bigger sides which is where this will have come from.

Reports last week about how many headers players in SPL make.. it is something like 50-70% more than players in other leagues.

Says it all about Scottish football. Its a hard watch and very very low quality. Worse than ever been.

Can Fernandez do it in better league where ball on deck more.. maybe.

The player of year in Scotland will probably by Claudio Braga.. a journeyman from Norwegian lower leagues. Says a lot.
It's terrible this season but it's worth it if Hearts win the league, 41 years with no team outside of the two Glasgow clubs winning the league is way way too long.

Biggest name we signed in last 6 summers was 33 y.o. Lewandowski.

And it looks like we overpayed when salary is added on top of transfer fee with finances in disarray to be considered.

Indeed and no other team was paying that for him and a transfer Bayern were more than happy to put through.

Think we were after big name in our desperation to prove the world (and sponsors) we still have it.

Hard to tell which top striker would come or available at that time.
