Piastri would just let him through if he needed 2nd place. That little bastard Antonelli. What could’ve been. Max deserved to win it.
It is clear that McLaren had favoured Norris across the season and intended for him to win. Qatar was a great example, one of the reasons they didn't pit during the safety car even though due to the race conditions it was objectively necessary, is because pitting both drivers would put Norris at a 5 second disadvantage (he had no chance to win the race anyway).Lando became champion by consistency. In Alain Prost style (1986 and 1989). High-scoring finishes securing the title, but lesser Ws than Nigel Mansell and Aerton Senna respectively.
Max is the best driver, but Piastri should have been the champion. The team screwed him in Singapore IIRC where he lost momentum afterwards and crashed out in an era where only sugardaddy drivers crash. Remember Latifi, Hamilton would have been 12-time champion today.
Red Bull played mind games in the end using McLaren's great start of the season as an excuse. I don't buy it. Carlos Sainz said in a recent podcast that after Ferrari he wouldn't have accepted an offer from Red Bull, knowing that this is clearly Team Verstappen now. Poor Yuki, achieved his dream and got total crap for a car. This left the impression that Max is winning races driving a fucking tractor. Fact is Alpha Tauri/Racing Bulls cars were faster than Red Bull's second car most of the season. Clearly driver 2 was sacrificed for Max's benefit. Checo Perez got the same treatment last season.
Of course this is part of the sport. Ferrari did it with Michael Schumacher throughout his 10-year stint, Mercedes did it with Hamilton after the cinematic 2016 season with Nico Rosberg. All in all Max will never get a great teammate again at Red Bull.

That's actually typical statement for a F1 driver. Ego and arrogance at maximum. I knew this moment was coming for McLaren in the last couple of seasons. Lando was very likeable character previously, but Mr. Nice Guy is up to a certain moment. I commented on that in this thread earlier this year.“I went away and worked on myself, the little details – and look, I won by what, two points? I want to give congrats to Oscar and to Max, for making us stress like hell. Oscar has driven incredibly, and at some point he’s going to get the better of me.”
