He is though. He gets beaten more because he commits a lot more and flies into challenges. Frenkie doesn't attempt as many tackles.
Frenkie looks pretty weak and soft to me. None of your midfielders are physically strong.

Frenkie is by far the better defender of the two.
Gavi runs more but to this point has no positional awareness and skinned far too often.

Exactly... he chases ball and makes tackles and gets skinned a lot.
Frenkie is far stronger than Gavi it is not even close and much quicker.
More of an athlete.
Gavis Phil Jones act isnt all made up to be.

Gavi that season compared to Frenkie this.
Almost identical tackles/interceptions made but Gavi loses x3 as many challenges and made more defensive errors leading to oppotion getting chances.
Also loses the ball a lot more which feeds into it.
Fairly narrow scope.. top 5 leagues. U21 and Midfielders.

De average 27/28.
Injuries robbed the world of king Gavi the last 24 months, he got injured Nov, 2023.
But I won't turn Pedri trend into a Gavi vs Frenkie trend, they are different players. But fully fit & in form Gavi clears.
Its Pedri vs de jong all over again, we know how that went 😂

When the argument previuosly was Gavi is better.
This myth that Gavi was magnificent in 23/24 before ACL... he was absolute shite on both his last league game and last CL game.
Jamrock claimed Gavi was Barcas 'most important' midfielder and better in a two than Pedri who shouldnt play there.
While La Masia would produce another Pedri soon but could not produce another Gavi.
Used to claim Busi was better than Pedri also.
Top stuff.

My last Gavi post in this trend.
A decent part of why we lost the league in the season he got injured, was because he went down.
We were without de jong and maybe Pedri not sure for a decent amount of games, and we only lost twice.
One was vs Madrid when Gavi was clearly the best player on the field.
But after he went down, we were missing something in the midfield.

Barca were 4th when Gavi got injured and had won 3 of the previous 6 league games and lost last CL game he played in also.
However Barca had won 5 of the first 6 before Frenkie injured his ankle that season.
Gavi v Real was good in first half and vanished in 2nd as Real took game over.. he was not even close to the best player on park at all. Gundo was far better for Barca and Bellingham was better for Real.
Folk love to harp back to one game Gavi had a good half as Barca LOST to Real.

Gavi is irrelevant in this debate, he's not gonna be a serious player this season and probably ever.
I disagree with serghei that we should add a Vidal, Paulinho type of midfielder next to Pedri and FDJ. Pedri needs a Rodri and return to 4-3-3 to maximise his talent. It's obvious we won't buy a DM for many more years so our best bet is Eric (maybe Bernal long term but not too sure about that either). We could sell at least one of Olmo/Fermin in this case, probably both and get some funds for other positions. Not gonna happen though.

Good argument about Perdi and Vitinha I guess.
Here are some more from my pov:
Vitinha is a much more consistent performer never looks gassed, maintains intensity throughout games, rarely sulks, has a great shot, is great at ball shielding and retention, has good vision and great long passing, as well as better overall passing accuracy (arguably safer passing mostly, so this might not tell us much)
Pedri is more creative, has incredible calmness and dribling ability. His vision is superb, his tiki taka game is top level and is also a good driver of the ball, some times. has the occasional good shot.
But he tires sooner, often gets lost in games, doesn't maintain 90 min performance, is too casual too often, offering no aggression for a midfielder.
that's my overall assessment.
Pedri is top top class. and both have good arguments, so it's a question of what a team needs and what we prefer to see. I believe Vitinha is a player that would surely be better for us, for all the above reasons.
