Valverde would be laughed out of Barcelona if he played midfield. His first touch is crap. Fans would be calling for his head after few matches. He fits some PL club. Physical monster and kicks well.

While valerde is obvious better than de jong, he & Pedri wouldn't work.
In a 433 with a DM, plus Pedri & valerde that would cook.
Not the profile we need.
De jong would do well at Madrid though, they have no one that recycles possession the way he does, at Barcelona we have multiple players who can do that, pretty much everyone but fermin can do it at some level, and a few CBs can as well.

And before anyone (we know who lol) says well de jong was better than valerde is 1 or 2 of the clasico's last season.
So was casado does that mean casado is better than valerde? Lol

The fact Valverde can be outplayed by players like Casado adds to it.

Frenkie just 'recycles poses soon' while hold up Gavi performances he makes ONE pass forward and ONE pass into final third with a paltry 67yds passing forward as his best game... a game Barca lose at home to Real.
Top stuff.

Everyone in the squad are a few levels below Pedri and Frenkie when it comes to dominating possesion, and it shows time and time again when neither of them are playing.
Anyone could see we lost our rythm when Pedri left the field, Garcia and Casado just weren't able to offer as many solutions in build up or in possesion generally, and most often go for a simple pass backwards.
And I say this even tho I liked Garcia's game yesterday, but he needs someone beside him who takes the majority of responsibility in possesion, Casado, Bernal, Olmo etc are just not able to do that on the same level as Frenkie and Pedri.

Yea Garcia needs someone beside them. That's clear, but he's also better at recycling possession that almost every Madrid midfielder.
As is most of our midfielders, compared to there's, I didn't say all our midfielders can do that job as good as Pedri and de jong, as evident by the "at some level' that's literally the only thing Frenkie is truly excellent at, I said they can all do it, it's in there nature, except fermin is struggles there.

Frenkie is far far better tatically than likes of Casado and Gavi. More athletic. Quicker. Stronger.
Folk moan about Frenkie 'doesnt pass ball forward' then have Casado and Gavi as those they praise... couldnt make it up.
They then go back 2 years and gush over Gavi in games he played in middle of park v Real and could barely move ball forward all game as Barca lose... 'but its not his job' is usual excuse.
Frenkie is a better DM than both, better CM than both, better box to box than both and can drop deep to help pick up attackers in way those two cant.

Gavi had has multi great games against real Madrid and other "big teams" and multiple bad ones too, just like de average.
De jong was good against Madrid, give him an award.
But make sure we give one to

Gundogan

Gavi has a couple decent Supercup games v Real where he played well almost as a second striker running off Lewa.
Gavi in 23/24 that Jamrock holds up as top performance was beyond poor at progressing ball and was nowhere near best player in game.. It was another of those games that all Gavi has to do is make tackles and folk purr.. as Barca lose.
Frenkie was absolute levels above that heralded Gavi performance months before when Barca won league for example as beat Real 2-1 at home.
Frenkie has gone to Bernabeau and dominated them multiple times and has performances v Real to wrap up leagues at home twice that Gavi has never got even close to.

While De Jong can recycle possession and produce the occasional clever pass, every time Barça faces a strong opponent - one with technically capable players, good passing structure, strong teamwork, and an effective press, the midfield starts to struggle. Gaps open up in the middle of the park. That’s one of the reasons Barcalost against Inter. This season it will be even more difficult against top teams in the UCL such as Arsenal, City, PSG and Chelsea.
The fact that some people suggest Barca doesn’t need players with profiles like Valverde’s and instead prefer players like Casado and De Jong strikes me as blind faith.
I guess it’s the same blindness that left people surprised when Barca was overrun 8–2.
