10 - Lamine Yamal

Pretty much a one trick pony for now but that trick is really good. Other than 1v1 dribbling I can't say he's world class at anything. He misplaces passes a ton even though sometimes he has a nice one he loses way too many balls. He can't finish and all he wants to do is hug the touchline and dribble at people. Why does no one tell him he needs to move around make space like raphinha

Not 100% physically or in terms of form, he had good moments mixed with Lamine ones and some actions that he failed to pull off successfully. You can see though that in an instant he can deliver a precise pass for a goal scoring opportunity (The Lewy header for one that forced a good save from Oblak)

Don't think he's getting enough touches but I also don't see him at 100% yet

Forward/winger mostly will have more direct take ons than midfielder. So it's not surprised when you see Adama is here since he is good at taking on his opponent too.

You are contradicting yourself with "pure dribbler" and "take ons completed stats".
Wingers are better dribblers than midfielders who tend to be ball carriers instead of players who beat opponents outright. Pace and acceleration with the ball is a big part of dribbling.

A Yamal will always be a better dribbler than a Pedri.

And who will hug the touchline if Yamal roams more centrally? Kounde?

Yamal creates two big chances last night, one is Lewy's header which Oblak saved and one Raphinha blasted it wide, while completing 9 dribbles vs Atletico of all team.

The team is not yet build around Yamal to have him more touches aka more central role.

For the next match with both Olmo and Fermin out, i hope Flick can put Yamal in their role, though likely Dro will play.

What happened to your "pure dribbler" ?

Winger/forward will attempt more directly take on while midfielder will be more caution. Also i think the word "take on" is more accurate than "dribble" when it comes to stats.

Dribbling comes in many form, not neccessary just directly beat your opponent in one on one. Pedri for example is a fantastic dribbler but rarely attempt to beat his opponent.

That's ball carrying, ball manipulation and press resistance.

A Yamal is easily a better dribbler than a Pedri.

Beating opponents outright and getting past them is dribbling. What Messi did most of the time was dribbling. What Grealish does generally is ball carrying.

Wingers are wingers because they are elite at dribbling and beating players. The brief given to a winger used to be "beat your man and put in a cross". The brief given to modern wingers is "beat your man and get a shot or final ball off". Wingers are the best dribblers of the ball because they actually have to beat their opponents outright like Doku does.

Ball carrying: Kovacic, Iniesta, Modric, Grealish.

Press resistance: Verratti, Thiago, Moussa Dembele, Busquets.

People who excel at one of these skills are atleast pretty good at the other one. For example Kovacic has excellent press resistance.

The most dangerous attacking player has to get more touches to increase probability of winning and no one is more influential with the ball, even more so than Pedri & Raphinha who are the other key protagonists in the team

Whether its coming centrally, which I think may have to happen sooner than later as you can see defenses shifting to narrow the channels for him to exploit on the flank - we saw him flip a lot to the left for example but as we lack a bonafide #10 with Fermin & Olmo out, eventually it is an inevitability he will move centrally
