Ball distribution definitely. It will help not losing possesion at slightest pressure on the GK against top teams, as we did with Tek
But actual shot stopping? Don't get me wrong he is fantastic. But so is Tek. And when you constantly have 1v1's and a non existent defense in front of you it's very hard to stop everything. He would have to pull off some unreal performances

This fanbase has a habit of overhyping players like crazy.
People need to realize there isn't a single player in this club that is going to save this team this season.
The entire defence needs to be replaced - I don't think it's fair to put pressure on a new goal keeper as being some sort of saviour. With the amount of chances this team concedes and how clueless our defenders are teams are gonna put goals past Garcia too.

Got the "tunnel" today from the team and trained normally. Should be good to go after the int. break, which is very important for the stability of the high-line as well. Him running out and intercepting long balls are extremly important as well in Flick's system. Something Tek can't do.

Yup, Brugge would never score that 2nd goal with him between the posts. Plus, with the form he was in, he would probably save one of the other goals we conceded too, and suddenly we don’t even draw that game, but win it.

His distribution will be important too. When teams press us high up they leave a lot of space behind that an accurate long pass should exploit.
Tek cannot make those passes. Joan Garcia can and he drives the ball too instead of it being floaters that are easily intercepted. That's also the annoying part with ter Stegen's distribution. Too many floaters.

What is there not to like about him? He could honestly turnout to be top-10 signings for this club in the last couple of decades. He is tall, agile, extremely good reaction time, good at playing the ball with his feet and good at recognizing when to play the ball fast for quick counter attack.
You just have to hope he stays healthy because he is bound to steal some points for us.
