Barca almost conceded early through high line v Newcastl and there goal was also from team pushing up to play offside trap even when 2-0 up.

I just dont think much has changed but teams are a bit more patient at times if cant beat it.

It wasnt every single game teams were being caught out last season either.

I think this is a trademark of Flick ball. Abysmal defending is his calling card, the flaw everyone knows. I checked out the Bayern forums. Most got used to it, they said Bayern could concede 2-3 goals to the worst sides of Bundesliga at any point. It's the same with us. Most frustrating entertaining ball possible is how Bayern fans put it, and it fits Flick to a T.

At this point, it's useless to demand Flick to change his ways. We can only hope the offense is so well drilled as to carry the defense, or call it a day and move past Flick. If we do move past Flick, one bad season is not enough to lose hope in him. We can bounce back next year even if we suck this year, provided Flick doesn't implode with all the pressure he might get.

Good point.

I checked and at this stage last season we conceded 8.

This season 10.

So defence is on par.

BUT I'd argue with the eye test that we are conceding more changes. Someone would have to confer with the xG.

So yeah, issue is systematic, and of course injuries and form of the attackers to outperform goals let in.

No, the difference is that the high line was executed more efficiently. If it weren’t for the high line’s insane execution we would’ve conceded at least 3 v Villarreal away in September. I remember that game vividly they had like 3-4 goals disallowed

Hansi Flick: “During Bayern against Barcelona (8-2 match), my celebration was the same for all eight goals, and I didn’t smile at any. This club may have changed me — I’m more emotional — but I love it and want to give my all. Although I don’t want my grandson to see me doing what I did against Girona.” #fcblive

Barca has this aura to even trigger such a calm and kind personality as Flick's. Didn't smile once at the historical 8-2. Celebrates a goal against Girona like it was the last minute CL final winning goal. You have to love him.

The funny thing is mbappe cooked in 3/4 games we played them, we were so close to dropping points in the game at home if they had better finishing, so based on this season almost every team has master the fact that you need a later runner to break the line, mbappe and vini running from deep, only araujo, blade and kounde can potentially keep up with them once the line in broken to make the shot someone what difficult..

Still think we'll win though, at worst a draw, they haven't been particularly good this season as a team just saved by the ref.

Guys can you genuinely remember when was the last time Barcelona had a great defence in all competitions
It's a wrong question to ask, because Barcelona's playstyle isn't focused on the traditional defending with the backline, but with the whole team. That's total football. If the opponent passes in their own half without interference, you can already call it a bad defending from us (what nobody does obviously), because the pressing from our attackers didn't work and they're the first defenders of the team.

Every defensive line in the world looks bad standing in the middle of the pitch, when the attackers run with speed past you in an 1 vs 1 situation. That is the nature of our tactic, the downside. But we accept it, because we like the upsides of it. So the question should never be about a great defense isolated from the team's performance, because as I've said, you criticize the defence, then start with the striker who didn't press as required. We play a system, players are not isolated on their position, everyone depending on each other here.
