Cool player, seems like he is just tired of football, could have easily played longer for national team aswell as Bayern.

Philip Lahm on Bayern's dominance in Bundesliga

Lahm blamed prominent clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Wolfsburg for failing to produce a challenge.

"The financial situation in the league wasn't that different in the years we finished second and fourth," he told stern magazine.

"I don't think Bayern Munich alone is responsible for how good we are doing. If we are 13 points clear after 25 games, it means that other well-positioned clubs like Schalke or Wolfsburg haven't performed consistently well.

"Borussia Dortmund are an unbelievably talented team who could have made the Bundesliga title race a lot closer. Although you have to say the rest of the Bundesliga lacks quality."

How does he rate next to Alves?

Prefer Alves myself, but Lahm was one of the best full-backs ever, and played well in midfield too.

I think Kimmich has been great at times, but he's like the poor man's Lahm.

One of the greatest Full Backs of all time. Period.

Also one of the highest Football IQs and cleanest players ever.

I rate him higher than Alves. Cafu is above Alves too.

You can't be the greatest Right Back of all time if Maicon benches you fairly in your prime (everybody agreed with the decision because Prime Maicon was an absolute animal). It's not like Southgate benched Alves unfairly because he's an idiot lol. He was benched fairly because Maicon was clearly better in that period.

When any fullback does what Alves did not at FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Bayern

But Sevilla, we can talk.

Lahm is class though

The same Roma with Walter the wall Samuel, totti, Batistuta even motella?

Yea okay lol

Won't even mention lahm at Stuttgart.

When someone can name a FB that was arguably his teams best player in back to back E.L titles, we can talk about maicon and lahm.

Then you add on what he did at Barca and it's like what are we even talking about?.

The fact that Brazil didn't win a WC was probably because the idiot coach thought Maicon was a better fit than Alves, not really man other issues but still..

I don't think people fully understand who dani Alves was, words were said by serious people who actually watch football that has never been said about any other FB that I can remember

He surpassed being compared to fullbacks and was just one of the best players in the world period, at a time of peak Messi and Ronald.

This season he was probably the 2nd or 3rd best player in the world for the majority of the season.

With Sevilla he was arguably the best player in la Liga for a majority of the season.

Prime dani alves surpasses just fullbacks.

When talking about
Dani Alves
Busquet
Xavi
Iniesta
Messi

Come correct, these people don't sit at the table they sit above it, with very few others.

Yet Lahm is more complete and very successfully played numerous positions like LB, DM, CM and even CB a few times.

Alves had Ballon d or winners and wonderkids in the biggest Football powerhouse National Team alongside him and yet Lahm was way better for Germany.

Flashy Brazilians will always have better PR than Efficient Germans but Lahm is one of the most intelligent players to ever play the sport. Alves certainly isn't.... on and off the pitch.

Lahm had immense tactical discipline, consistency, versatility and brilliant technical ability. Pep Guardiola doesn't move you to midfield if you don't have exceptional technical ability, spacial awareness and Football IQ.

Lahm also had tremendous leadership qualities while Alves was anything but a leader.

Prime Dani Alves couldn't even surpass or bench Prime Maicon lmao.

Lahm anyday.

I don't think there's need for heated debate. They're both two of the best full-backs ever. It depends what you value in a full-back. If you want a flying attacking full-back, Alves. If you want a smart and well-rounded, excellent at all phases of the game full-back. Lahm.

They both suited the teams they played for and that's why both had very successful careers.

Bro trying to play the "Barca legend" card to get some support because he knows he has lost the argument.

Don't worry. I'm sure people here will back Alves. I'm sure people will try to gang up on me. They should. He's a Barca legend (although the club removed him from the list recently for personal reasons) and the fans are understandably attached to Alves because of some beautiful, emotional moments.

But Lahm will always be the more complete Footballer. Pep Guardiola/Mr Barcelona who is the closest thing to a modern day Cruyff and the greatest exponent of Barca DNA and tactics was so impressed with Lahm's intelligence, spacial awareness and technical ability that he moved him into midfield.

That along with Lahm's outstanding career with Germany and Dani's underwhelming Brazil career pretty much seals the deal.

This was fun. And I do respect Alves (as a player). But Cafu and Lahm were better. Peace. ✌🏻

"Pep Guardiola consistently praised Philipp Lahm, calling him one of the most fantastic and intelligent players he's ever coached, a special person in his life, and one of the best players he's ever seen. Guardiola highlighted Lahm's perfect understanding of the game, his versatility in playing multiple positions, and his exceptional character. He viewed it as a great honor to manage Lahm." 🐐
