10 - Lamine Yamal

Since Yamal's debut couple years ago we've won 72.5% Liga matches with him, only 44.4% without and being 0% just last season.

Was never this bad without Messi but we had other elite players. Sad state we're in, self inflicted too.
the 0% stat looks more alarming than it is. He basically played in almost every game.

It kinda does, since our poor run in the league where we gave away the league happened while he was out.

Why flick wanted a top class winger this summer

It 100% doesn't simply cause sample size is way too small to draw those conclusions.
Our poor run also included 2 losses where he played(against Leganes he was taken off minute 75)
In the games where he was completely absent we lost 2 games and drew 1. The Celta game where we gave away 2 goal lead in minute 84 after one of our players caught an unnecessary red.

He also missed 1 game in CL and 1 in Copa del Rey which we both one. Tbf Copa was against very poor competition. But one of games we lost was against atletico where we gave away 1 goal lead which is a stronger side.

If the argument is he is an important player for us? Yes. No one will dispute that. But way too early to draw parallels to messipendencenia. This team looks more balanced.

He seems bigger, stronger and quicker. He will definitely improve his finishing this season as we already seen he improved his shooting technique towards the end of last season. Its gonna be scary but not for us.

It is rare to see a player dribble past his man, basically whenever he wanted to, like Lamine did today. Even against such poor opposition.

The worry is not how great he is going to be.

The worry is how reliant we are becoming on him.

Laminedepencia is already here somewhat and, whilst it will always be there due to his greatness, we must do our best to minimise it so we aren't as dependent on him as we were with Leo.
We're just junkies for GOATs.

Team quality drops by 30-40℅ when he is absent. But even without him we can be good. Atletico game last season was a good example, and no I honestly don't care about the fact we lost. I said after the match Lamine wouldn't have helped here because we did create a shitload of chances and Pedri was basically serving them things on plate but for whatever reason in that period the whole attack switched to donkey finishing mode.

Problem in his absence last season was we simply had no one to replace him. Rapha takes the RW, where he is usually shit as well, and since we had no other LW midfielders would be taking that place and needless to say it doesn't work. Now at least we have a real winger to replace him when he is off so this season it should be better.

In pre season we saw our 2nd team in almost all games did as good or better than the first team. And even though it's shit opposition it still means our depth is okay. We only need to use it wisely.
