Could be the guy is happy to just play football at Bilbao and getting handsomely paid for that. Nothing wrong with it. Not all players are interested in big achievements. Just own up to it and be the Totti of Bilbao.

But he made a mess out of it. He made it seem he only decided to stay at Bilbao because Barca couldn't satisfy his agent. Makes him look like a total clown.

Forget about this guy and move on. It's clear now that he was never mentally prepared for Barca. When you take this fact into consideration this is for the best.

True. Earn big at Bilbao and sleep well under Mr Melotonin himself.

And then win big with Lamine carrying his ass for Spain.

Not bad at all.

You have to question his personal ambition. Why sign such a long contract? He's just tied himself down to Bilbao even further and which team would pay ridiculous money for him if and when he decides he wants to move to a bigger club?

This isn't a contract that you sign with the idea that big club will come later.
100M RC, 20M gross salary (including bonuses) for a Bilbao winger isn't going to happen unless he is open to Saudi move at young age.

Nah, it can happen depending on some factors. Some EPL teams can sign him even at 90m clause. I think it depends a lot over how he looks like at the World Cup. World Cup performances can make rich clubs go crazy with transfer sums. Think Enzo Fernandes.

It is 100M cash buyout clause, not 90M
10M net salary, for 10 years contract.
Who tf can match such salary while paying 100M for him on 9 year+ contract?

You're welcome
I was right from day 1. Knows himself he’s not good enough to make the move up. Level-headed lad knows he still riding the euro cup hype wave. Not natural passer or shooter.
Probably believed was gonna have a difficult time here.
Stay at Bilbao and never worry about whether the stinker of games put in is 10 or 20.
Fans always happy to greet you at the local restaurants.

But like rest got fooled into believing transfer would happen due to statements made.
Was open to having him go here due to low fees.

This was from April 11. More and more likely this was Plan A and B and C. Maybe Barca D

Contract lenght doesn't matter much. If anything, if he hits it big 10m net salary is a bit under market. It depends on him and him alone. I remain partial to the idea that a big world cup performance is gonna draw suitors from the rich clubs.

Without that, I agree with you.

Personally, for me this extension brings some warning signs with him. I would have liked us to sign him for 60m and decent salary, but can't say this is a huge loss for us. Also don't believe in the idea that Raphinha should be moved from LW. If we signed Nico... first 1-2 seasons he'd have been a squad player.

Don't believe the story with the local club love, seems inconsistent with his previous actions, and this screams to me like the decision of a hesitant young player that is scared to make a big move and wants to have a good fallback situation in case things go wrong.

This extension with Bilbao is ideal if he wants some kind of protection in case he doesn't make it big. It ensures him for life in case he ends up like Ansu Fati. In that sense, it is an amazing financial deal for a young player. If he hits it big, then he'll still have some hope for a big transfer should he want it, if he doesn't confirm expectations, he sits on a sweet sweet salary for a decade. Either way, someone who dreams for big titles and is extremely confident in his ability at the elite level does not extend with Bilbao for 10 years with a big release clause.

Sancet did the same thing no? Guess they believe they have a golden generation right now, which they basically do.

Can't remember a athletic team with this much talent 1-24.

But he obviously wanted to come, what changed who knows
