With all arujo fuckery I think starting martin is what cost us the semi + ref. Conceding goals is always going to happen to barca flick. With another competent LB we 100% outscore Inter over two legs.

I don't think Gerard Martin was good even with his two assists, but at the end of the day he's Gerard Martin. You know what he is, and I guess compared to everyone's expectations he did alright? Respectable job considering he was never supposed to be in that position.
You just expect more from Araujo who is supposed to be a leader, is probably the highest paid CB at the club and if not just behind Inigo.
Basically Gerard Martin performed as well as you could expect or maybe better while Araujo performed worse than even imaginable for someone of his supposed status at the club.

Most competent fullbacks aren't much better defenders than Martin is. There is a reason why guys like Pep & Arteta uses 4 CB defense.
A lot of current generation of fullbackss were developed as wingers/midfielders and moved to fullbacks, even the more natural one had the idea of "inverted " fullbacks as they were developing as players.
And CB has to cover for the defenders around them, and GK has to cover for the entire team defensive shortcomings etc.
I want an upgrade over Martin, but for me it is delusional to think that another "backup level LB" would have made the game that much better defensively than a better CB.
There is a reaaon why no Fullback has never made it to ballon d'or, the only positions to not to, and that CB are more expensive than fullbacks. Elite CB is far more transformative than any fullback signing.
In a way, you have a valid argument, Martin is a bigger weakness than any CB, that is right.
But a great CB will solve far more problems than any LB signing could do.

Martin was bad and that is no surprise, however Araujo was despicable on the 2 last goals conceded. No experienced CB should be that loose on his target. He cost Barca.

Noone knows if we'll be able to make signings. I wouldn't be too optimistic anyway.

We need to sort out our fullback situation first before going in for anyone else.
But Lookman, Tah, and Garcia are ideal for us.
Getting a proper RB like Ratiu, Vanderson or even Frimpong will enable Kounde at CB. We be actually cooking.
