He wants to be in the conversation for the goats at FB

You can't do that playing for Liverpool, has to be Barca or Madrid.

He wants the glory, plus to pocket a high sign bonus.

On a personal level can't blame him.

But as a fan I would hate him.
Not true.

Ashley Cole is widely regarded as one of the greatest left backs in history and he was playing for Chelsea and Arsenal.

No one outside of English fans puts cole in the same conversation as the goat fullbacks.

He was class though, but a class below the goats

This is why I don't buy it he left for money. If he left for money I'd actually have some understanding. But money was very much on the table at Liverpool too. He wants fame and glory before anything else, it's not a good trait.

Its not a good trait want to experience playing for the biggest club on the planet in sunny Madrid, but you would understand him being a pesetero?

C’mon guys. If he was leaving Liverpool for Barca, you would be praising him, while Estruch would be looking through his lineage finding that he is in fact 1/10th Catalan.

The honorable thing would have been to sign the new contract on liverpool's terms but with a buy-out clause that he could activate after WC '26. There is always a risk of changing leagues before a WC year.

Now they willl either sacrifice the midfield or play with 3 at the back.
Would be an interesting option.

I believe Balde will be fine with him, Rapha can cook him defensively.
But its the offensive output we need to worry about.
Inigo might have to up his game

It's mainly Real Madrid as destination for English players in recent history. Beckham, Owen, Woodgate, Bale. Bellingham and now Trent.

Ian Rush had an unsuccesful stint with Juventus in the 80s and vaguely remember Paul Ince at Inter Milan in the 90s.

Overall Bellingham might be the most successful of English players abroad and he went through the alternative route with Dortmund.

"Ashley Cole (born 20 December 1980) is an English football coach and former player. As a player, he played as a left back, most notably for Arsenal and Chelsea. Cole is considered by many critics and fellow professional players as one of the best defenders of his generation, one of the greatest English players of all time as well as one of the greatest left-backs in the history of the sport."

This is from his Wikipedia intro. I'm not saying Wikipedia is the gospel truth or anything but most Football experts rate Cole this highly in general.

Henry was already considered one of the greatest strikers ever before he came to Barca.

Lewandowski was considered one of the greatest strikers ever long before his Spain move.

Maldini never played in Spain. Baresi didn't either.

You don't have to play in Spain to be in all time debates. That's ridiculous.

Its not a good trait to leave your boyhood club where you can be the captain, legend, face of the club for Madrid just so you can be more famous and get more media attention

Anyways, the point is you don't need to play in Spain to be in all time debates. If Trent stars in more CL and PL wins for Liverpool, he'd be an all timer.

Have given numerous examples to make this crystal clear. Can give more.

Not in general we are talking about Trent's case here

He has serious limitations as a defensive fullback and needs a PR machine to hype his long passes, crosses and assists so over time he gets received better than he is by football mainstream

Madrid is the ideal place

Dont think the point people are making that you got to play in pain.
At this moment Madrid and Us are the biggest club so yeah. But during the Italian dominance it was them.

Exactly Wikipedia.

No one thinks Ashley Cole is a all time great full back in the way they think of Dani alves or Marcelo.

Lewa rep goat more of a boost in the 3 years spent at Barca than his entire career in Germany.

Those guys played in Italy when it was the goat league.

Henry again is a player that's more highly related in England than outside, if he played for Madrid or Barca, no one would debate where he ranks.

I don't make the rules, you play for Barca and Madrid, you get a reputation boost, that's just the way it is, Trent knows it too, which is why he wants to leave.

If Trent ends with 3 CLs and 4 PLs for Liverpool and is a regular England starter, the English media will give him insane hype. He'll be considered an all timer if he achieves these things.

Also his playing style is far more attractive than the average FB.
