Maybe there's a thread but if there is I missed it, so starting fresh.
I always said that stuff like athletics, swimming and tennis were my favourite sports after football, but I always come back to pool, too.
Used to love the snooker as a wee guy, watching the worlds as I have never really played snooker. Round about 2002 I started getting into the Mosconi Cup - which is Europe v USA 9 ball on American pool tables. Loved watching guys like Johnny Archer and the volatile Earl Strickland. Steve Davis crossed over too, from snooker.
Recently learned a bit about Efren Reyes - I missed him back in the day as he wasn't eligible for Mosconi as he was non-European and non-American. He seems like the Messi of pool.
If you play, do you play on British (yellow and reds or blues, smaller tables and pockets, slower) or American (much larger heavier balls, larger table, faster, larger more forgiving pockets) tables? Do you play 8 ball (clearing 7 balls then the black) or 9 ball (playing with 9 balls and potting them numerically from ball 1 to 9, unless you hit the ball off the 9). The aim is to pot the black or the 9 ball respectively.
I have got back into playing British. I have played two sessions of pool recently at a group, after not playing since pre 2020. It has reinvigorated my love for the game. I have a pool hall about a mile up the road, so thinking of getting a membership and playing 2-3 times a week. My brother and a few mates say they will play with me, though will be a mix of British and American tables.
I am still an okay player - nothing amazing but better than plenty too. I potted 4-5 reds in a row last week on a British table, which is good going. I am good at using bottom spin where you hit the base of the white ball (draw) but I need to get better with topspin and English (hitting the sides of the white).
Do you play? Or have an interest?
