Pool (billiards)

Maybe there's a thread but if there is I missed it, so starting fresh.

I always said that stuff like athletics, swimming and tennis were my favourite sports after football, but I always come back to pool, too.

Used to love the snooker as a wee guy, watching the worlds as I have never really played snooker. Round about 2002 I started getting into the Mosconi Cup - which is Europe v USA 9 ball on American pool tables. Loved watching guys like Johnny Archer and the volatile Earl Strickland. Steve Davis crossed over too, from snooker.

Recently learned a bit about Efren Reyes - I missed him back in the day as he wasn't eligible for Mosconi as he was non-European and non-American. He seems like the Messi of pool.

If you play, do you play on British (yellow and reds or blues, smaller tables and pockets, slower) or American (much larger heavier balls, larger table, faster, larger more forgiving pockets) tables? Do you play 8 ball (clearing 7 balls then the black) or 9 ball (playing with 9 balls and potting them numerically from ball 1 to 9, unless you hit the ball off the 9). The aim is to pot the black or the 9 ball respectively.

I have got back into playing British. I have played two sessions of pool recently at a group, after not playing since pre 2020. It has reinvigorated my love for the game. I have a pool hall about a mile up the road, so thinking of getting a membership and playing 2-3 times a week. My brother and a few mates say they will play with me, though will be a mix of British and American tables.

I am still an okay player - nothing amazing but better than plenty too. I potted 4-5 reds in a row last week on a British table, which is good going. I am good at using bottom spin where you hit the base of the white ball (draw) but I need to get better with topspin and English (hitting the sides of the white).

Do you play? Or have an interest?

I seen that mate. But technically it's a different sport ;)

If we merge pool and snooker, we should merge the indoor football and futsal threads with the main threads on the site. Do you not agree?

Seriously, though, just feel it's better to keep snooker and pool separate.

also, do you play ever?

I like this game but I think it depends a lot on luck

At least when it's two players of equal level playing.. A pro will smash any regular guy on pure skill though

As for Effren Reyes yeah I've always been fascinated by him. I don't know if there are many more such sports where the GOAT position is so clear and indisputable

Yeah a lot is luck with how the balls end up scattered. But even at that, the pros are miles superior at clearing up

Have you seen the Z shot Reyes played against Strickland in the 90s?

As for by far the biggest GOAT, maybe Gretzky?

I've played few times in my youth. I think i'm decent in geometrical/spatial understanding and had some good pots on that hunch alone, but never practiced. Obviously couldn't do the the strategic thinking without serious practice. It's a fun game. Would definitely want to try it some time again.
Still think this thread is redundant as snooker is basically superior form of billiard. Pool is for non-whites, no wonder the most prolific champion in that sport is some mexican guy. (half joking)

But if you want to get really monocle popping hardcore shit, get into russian pyramid or carambol. Pool is like billiard for amerimutts and lower classes to have simple pleasures in drinking joints. Those, who play pro snooker or any of the above mentioned disciplines, just wreck pool players and would have little interest in contesting them, which is why there are hardly any "ecumenical" tournaments, only some exhibition matches. There are levels to the cue ball knowledge.

Yeah I am not denying snooker is the superior, tactical 'artistry' form of billiards. In fact that's why I like pool - I am better at it and can compete (never really played snooker but expect I'd be useless). I also find it fun to watch as it's faster and stuff, usually.

Russian pyramid looks very interesting. Carambole looks brilliant too but seems like it would be insanely difficult.

I know you prefer snooker, but as you say you want to, you should give pool a go again.

Well, if i ever did any billiards at this age, pool would be obvious choice. I need them holes bigger and rules simpler lulz.
Lol.

And yeah, I am too old to play snooker too. If I can improve my pool game I might even enter some tournaments solo. I would play as a team but I don't feel anywhere near as confident playing pool as I do football, so would worry I'd let my team mates down by missing easy blacks or something.

Two lovebirds found each other finally 😍🥰😍
Mate why don't you behave normally? Instead of trying to troll people who are trying to stay calm, or are just trying to have a conversation? You're an instigator.

You're not making a fool of us. The only person you're embarrassing is yourself with your vendettas and clear constant showing that your humour is diabolical.

Get a grip. As Andresito said, it's BORING. You're boring.

Just grow up.

If you want to discuss pool - then by all means. I hold no grudges and will happily discuss it with you. If you have no interest in pool, then go away and stop clogging up the thread. I want it to stay on topic and not be polluted by nonsense. But your trolling of me (and others) is tedious not only for me, but for other people now, too. Several people have commented on how boring it is.

So please. If you wanna discuss pool, by all means. If not, then leave.

He's a kike and behaves like one in not so subtle manner. He wants us "goyim" dead or enslaved. No need to address him in any serios manner. We're way past the point to take these "people" as somebody to interact with sincerely, because they never did to us for thousands of years. If Epstein regime revelations and current unhinged Usrael aggression death throws don't shed the light, then better just eat the blue pill and enjoy that shit stake.

Yeah, it's boring. He's changed whatever that was now to imply I am a male feminist too, when I am nothing of the sort  He's lost the plot.

Anyway, just a shame he won't talk pool if he likes it, and is destroying my thread. Can we get him thread banned @Barcaman @Andresito if he won't stop, or at least delete these posts?
