Because they can buy more easily a home game from a team with less publicity and income. Also the game will be held in the end of december, where we'll most likely have 60k viewers allowed to attend.
If you want to buy a barca home game, you need to reimburse the club of the total income on that game in addition to the fee to buy that game. That'll be way more costly, given barca is selling tickets for hundreds of Euros to tourists.

This is terrible, games outside the home country of the league.
I know it's older men yelling at clouds, and football was always commercialised, but it's really gone past a tipping point.

According to Villarreal CEO, there may not be football in Villarreal in the future without that extra 6m.

That's true, but don't you think that football is a different culture? Like American sports have always felt commercialised even in the early days, whereas European football clubs have stronger roots with the community and are generally older.
Or do you just consider that me being a bit too traditionalist?

Americans has their own traditions too. Look how long it took them to put sponsors on their jerseys.
Even Barca gave up long before them. Afaik they were also a bit late in embracing gambling in sports, possibly ads by alcohols beverages too (last two I am not sure tbh, open for correction).
At the end, everyone look around and ask why shouldn't they exploit those money streams whlie others do.
