Think Alonso has Valverde in a terrible spot. He's the third midfielder in a 3, or the lateral midfielder in a 4 for me. Not in a midfield 2. It's as if you play rakitic in a double pivot to dictate the tempo of the game. Terrible.

He is a box to box ffs.

The way they played today and if had a controller in midfield would be better off with Vaverde in one of those AM roles and let him use his legs and ball striking.

His best times at Real have largely been when RW or drifting there to date.

Usual reminder after this display by Julian Alvarez:

In the winter of 2021-22 Barcelona had the chance to sign Alvarez from River Plate for 20m or so, but Xavi, the de facto SD of the club in the dark years 2021-2024, thought Ferran Torres for 50+10m was much better option

Txiki snatched him for City, and the rest is history...

100%

I think if we paid 10m more, we could have got both Luis Diaz and Julian in the same window instead of Torres.

Torres has 4 goals in La Liga this season.

Torres W

No, it's not.
Torres is (now) fine for sub.

But the money spent, the importance of that transfer midseason 21-22 when he had all kinds of restrictions, and the eventual development of Alvarez speak to the fact that it was a brainless decision by someone incompetent to take decisions for a club as big as Barca

1. I was joking about Torres, but still credit to him for turning into a solid sub.

2. We definitely should have signed Alvarez, but highlight is 20/20 at the time talks were of villa being the next Villa, it obviously didn't work out like that.

I'm no Torres fan and my record on us spending 65m on him is clear.

But just a bit of prospective.
