It is. Barca is possession positional football and Madrid is fast transition football. This always was the case since I've watched them.

They won't suddenly import Barca style like City and PSG did.

No not at all.

If they want to play possession football they will and not copy Barca.

The best Barca has almost always been the best on the world at breaking anyway when can.

Peps was. MSN was. Last season Flicks were up there.

Madrid is too proud to turn into a Barca wannabe. That would be the day .

They always played direct football with main counter attacking style vs top teams.

Most of their recent success has come when they kind of copied us, not fully but it was there.

Alonso
Modric
Kross

Before that they went through a period of strong physical Midfielders and it didn't do them well.

They are doing it again, let's hope it stays that way.

Modric and Kroos were not really possession based players. These midfielders ceded possession in 2016 CL final to a Simeone team.

Let's get real.

The reality is the best Madrid ever were a mix of possession and on the break.

Both up there with the sides in history that have managed both when needed.

Barca the same even if more often chose possession Peps Barca were best in world on break. As were Luchos. Flicks last season were top also at it.

If you want to see Madrid's main framework look at how they play vs strongest teams. Just because you have possession vs weaker teams it doesn't mean that's your main style.

They are a mix of the two as were Barca.

Look at Barcas goals against top teams also. Many on the break and huge part of Barcas game.

Folk go on about Bayern game last season still now.. Barca were 4-1 up with something like 35% of ball.

Have we ever lost possession vs Madrid when we had a top team? How many times in the last 20 years?

We are a possession team first, Madrid not so much.

You're welcome
how forum was hyping up madrid only 3 games ago and throwing shade at barca not realising we were playing on swiss cheese pitch.

Tomorrow we’ll be the only team undefeated and leading table siuuu.

Never change forum.

edit: okay, maybe not only team. Haven't verified it actually.

The point is you need to be able to do both to be a top side.

Both Real and Barcas top sides had that.

That's not what is discussed. It's about the main template. For Barca main priority is to controll possession. For Madrid not nearly the same priority.

Of course Barca is also dangerous on counters and Madrid can also do damage in possession.

When facing a defensive team, Barca main method is to build a short pass network and create combinations in short spaces. Madrid usually put the ball wide and pour crosses in.

No it is the point I am making.

Barca and Real at their best have players that can do both to a very high level.

Real had some of the best possession players in the world with BBC and Barca had best team on the break under Pep and Lucho.
