In 2 hours Struff vs Djokovic
He still won't be GOAT even if he wins

I remember how high the pressure was on Andy Roddick to succeed as well. He was often compared to Fed and Nadal without having the talent to reach that tier. I mean, I don’t think people quite understood what a golden era of tennis we were enjoying when they became big.

Tennis was big in the 70s, 80s and 90s in the US, so it was only natural for the media and others to expect a successor to some of the greatest American players of all time. But Roddick wasn’t that guy. Doubt we will see another American Sampras like player any time soon….

With that said, I don’t rate Djokovic as the GOAT merely because he’s won the Most slams, but that is obviously how he will be remembered.

Fact is, he won a lot of titles because of lack of competition. If Fed and Nadal had been 5 years younger, he wouldn’t have won the most Slams.

Fed is the GOAT. Loved watching Nadal playing too. Great fighter. I will miss this generation the way I’m missing the Messi/Ronaldo era of football. :(

Yeah, completely misread the situation. The guy has never beaten Novak.
Yeah Fritz will never be HIM. He actually matched Novak for most of the match. Total points was 130-126 Djokovic, but Fritz lost most of the key points.

Shelton is the only current American who has slam potential imo.

Yeah tuned in Friday night too but turned out to be an anticlimax. Don't think I expected an upset as the physical demand for beating Alcaraz is so hard at his age. But generally a lot of unforced errors, starting with the first game of the match.

Yeah that about sums it up, too good to retire but not close to the top 2 😅

Thing is, there's always injuries possible and so if he has a run in any of the slams without facing them...

Alcaraz is going to dominate the sport for a few years, as I predicted a while ago.

His closest rival, Sinner, was ranked no.1 (until yesterday), but what I saw at US Open was complete domination. Alcaraz is above the rest atm.

The reign of the big 3 is over for me now with the young lads.
