I remember how high the pressure was on Andy Roddick to succeed as well. He was often compared to Fed and Nadal without having the talent to reach that tier. I mean, I don’t think people quite understood what a golden era of tennis we were enjoying when they became big.

Tennis was big in the 70s, 80s and 90s in the US, so it was only natural for the media and others to expect a successor to some of the greatest American players of all time. But Roddick wasn’t that guy. Doubt we will see another American Sampras like player any time soon….

With that said, I don’t rate Djokovic as the GOAT merely because he’s won the Most slams, but that is obviously how he will be remembered.

Fact is, he won a lot of titles because of lack of competition. If Fed and Nadal had been 5 years younger, he wouldn’t have won the most Slams.

Fed is the GOAT. Loved watching Nadal playing too. Great fighter. I will miss this generation the way I’m missing the Messi/Ronaldo era of football. :(

Federer IS the greatest.

Yeah Fritz will never be HIM. He actually matched Novak for most of the match. Total points was 130-126 Djokovic, but Fritz lost most of the key points.

Shelton is the only current American who has slam potential imo.
Novak is at the point where it's the same whether he loses in R1 or finals.

It's either #25 or bust at this point.

I always argue for Rog as the greatest even though Nole has most majors/masters/world tour finals.

But Nadal said Novak is the best player ever , which he obviously is , even if he didn't play a single match anymore.

Can't put it into words how disappointed I am in Novak.

Waited all day for it and then this. What a waste.

There's a strong chance,he wont win another major now,ever.

Yeah tuned in Friday night too but turned out to be an anticlimax. Don't think I expected an upset as the physical demand for beating Alcaraz is so hard at his age. But generally a lot of unforced errors, starting with the first game of the match.

He is way too good to retire and not good enough to beat the top 2. Guy totally outplayed him. So disappointed but fair play to Alcaraz.

Just a very tough loss. Don't know how much it'll affect him mentally as he's strong enough.

Not the same without Fedal.

The only thing that matters now if Nole'll win another major. One or two more masters or worldtour finals wont make that much of a difference.

I was so sure he'll get 27-28 2 years ago. At most he'll get 2 more now.

Yeah that about sums it up, too good to retire but not close to the top 2 😅

Thing is, there's always injuries possible and so if he has a run in any of the slams without facing them...

Still just gutted. Was waltzing around here all proud how I've learnt to shut up and everything. Made like 8 posts all day.

The match was also at 9pm CET - finally I didn't have to sacrifice the whole night. It was basically the first match in the tournament that mattered to me.

And then to see that - just devastating.

I take sports too seriously.
