Kochen could probably have made a run for the US WC Squad too. Not as starter (though you never know with a season at a lesser top flight team flying around making 10 saves per game and conceding 3).

Just seems bad management considering he went on tour, never got a minute, and Inaki is still here coz Woj can't register. So he is, what, 4th choice goalkeeper, above the U20 so doesn't get that Maracana game, but stuck in the 4th division on Spain which is probably MLS2 level.

Kochen had 17 games in Barca B in his career, while having just 2 games in YUCL

I doubt he would have got a starter position in Segunda, and he had never been a fully starter with Barca B, when things got serious Barca B used Astralaga over him.

I think both Yaakob and Kochen were on the block for loans, but Yaakob got more attention due to the performance in winning YUCL

Him being undisputed starter there could help his development IMHO, he is just 19 and he could build on his career from there. It isn't the worst choice to stay and be the starter in that.

Yeah, Kochen won't be a starter in Segunda but should be in Primera RFEF, that's where I would loan him.

I would have probably kept Astralaga as the first team 3rd GK. Well, as for now with MATS injured and Pena on his way out. Registered as B team player so he could play there occasionally too if needed. He's 21 and don't think he'll ever be good enough to stay here longterm (as a #2) so no need to give him playing time to develop. And well, looks like he's a backup at Granada for now anyway so a waste of loan from that perspective if that won't change.

OTOH Kochen and Yaako are younger with higher upside and need to play at higher level than Segunda RFEF. Great to see Yaako is starting for Andorra, was really affraid he would be stuck behind their other two GKs there.

People make too much about level of competition when the effect in developing players is marginal at most, and probably negligible. Clubs succeeded in developing players in 4th division normally, it is about accommodating to playing against grown ass men than anything.

Astralaga is 21, and he needed to sort his own career, maybe he didn't want to stay as 3rd/4th GK for first team until he is 24.

The current situation is optimal tbh, 2 on loan, one is starter with B team, fairly young GK starting, one is injured and will likely be backup when he returns, and ancient Tek is 3rd. Inaki is the only missing piece to complete the puzzle as he need to move on.

Players can succeed at lower levels but it is easier to gauge them and the step up the higher the B/Atletic team is at.

Also more and more these players dont want to be playing at 4th tier in Spain at 17/18 if highly rated. That is the age a lot of more player are coming through at clubs now.

Astralaga going out on loan is to get better idea of his level. If it is back up at a lower level side then that helps answer it

In the 4th division?. were we in the 3rd division last season are am I missing something?.

If it was the 3rd and we got demoted to the 4th, Unless something changed that I don't know about, I would go so far as to say no top club has developed players in the 4th division for the first team, if a player is good enough they probably skip that level all together are primarily train with the first team.

At some point the opposition you play against affects your development.
