Last summer he wasn't far from it but he fought and won back the trust of the club and fans instead of crying and working against the club. I don't even understand why that matters, wasn't the point that the club didn't inform MATS that they are buying another keeper?
You seem to not understand the matter. I was talking about the fact they didn't discuss an exit strategy earlier. Since they renewed Tek it was clear they wanted to ditch Stegen also. This isn't about Stegen not accepting competition as you are implying.

Didn't brush his ego. This can be a problem for certain players if you tell them bluntly. Others behave like men and go where they can do their job. Sincerity is not always the best approach. You have to make sure the other party can take it on the chin and move on.

Stegen is not the type to react manly to it.

It's the same in any job. Some managers try to hold on their job with every tool they have, others don't want to stay where they are not valued anymore.

In this sense, the club made a mistake. Different tools for different people and personalities.

The soft approach works better for soft characters.

Yes, if said player is captain, has a long contract and you want to negotiate an exit. And there's also the issue of registering other players.

Informed? Seemed more like "informed" trough the media, like everybody else.

That doesn’t matter and I doubt clubs do that in advance.

Players are usually informed that their team want to move on when they have a replacement signed.

The club don’t need to inform any player of anything beforehand.

Ter Stegen fwiw also has the right not to release his medical information, but I don’t see how this will help him if the club in turn refuses to let him leave in January to prepare for the World Cup unless its a permanent transfer.

His NT coach have already said he needs to play to start for Germany.

Would be in his best interest to play ball and negotiate a smooth exit in January even if its on loan.

Club is meeting with Stegen right now.

It's a great clickbait story, probably half true and released by the club to increase pressure more than anything.

We see how these things go. Just look at Madrid putting pressure on LaLiga for their opening fixture despite them being the only one to their first game moved back in Europe.

It's fear mongering more than anything to take the pressure off Xabi and a built in excuse if they don't start well and VARai can't bail them out with some Pinocchio edits.

Not to mention they had their own referee committee of Madrid fanatics.

Anyways. I sense a happy ending. Stegen will de-register and then make a triumphant return to lift the SuperCopa de Saudi again. That's what its really about isn't it for the poor lad.

Are you sure? Wouldn't be the first player to be demoted.
why wouldn’t we be able to demote him? Didn’t Mourinho demote Schweinsteiger at Man U?
Who has been demoted from Barca?
A first team player cannot be demoted to a B team contract (because of his age and appearances for first team), and without a B contract he cannot play for them.

IIRC there is some regulation that a player has the right to compete for his spot in same conditions as other players, so for example you cannot let him train alone on the side of the pitch for a prolonged period as a punishment. In terms of improving fitness etc is a different case.

And I think there's a difference in Spain and England because the B team plays in a different pyramid in England, whereas it's in the same in Spain. So it's easier to drop down to English reserve sides to regain fitness.

That's the case if club has all the leverage. But if you are broke as Barca is and are having issues registering players, maybe the best approach would not be to resort to smearing trough the media?
