Marcus Rashford

Can’t convince someone by presenting highlight reel of one game.

Depends what you think my argument is. Maradona thinks I'm trying to convince people he is a superstar.

I simply said he has ability to impact a big match. And showed evidence of the biggest match he played for Villa last season where he showed that ability. That is all. Not more.

That’s not what we were discussing.

Rashford being best B option is different discussion to how many big games have you seen him deliver.
To be fair he has scored in a lot of games against Man City/Liverpool/Arsenal etc.

But there are mitigating circumstances:

1) even when he scores his all round game is generally poor;

2) as I have noted, and it is pretty easy stuff to understand - he does well in stats against those teams because they play high lines or take risks and offer space in behind. Watch lots of his goals against them and they're either runs into space in behind, or once in a blue moon smashes from range.

No, I don’t think you do. I think your expectations are closer in line with level than mara thinks you do.

No that is not what you said. I said initially you can’t just present highlight reel of one game. Then you said it’s plenty of games in his career or something.

Nah I agree with you there, and even made a post saying we meet somewhere in the middle.

You think he has ability - I do too, but less than you make out. But you definitely don't think his ability is cream of the crop or anything.

if Salah is 9.5 in ability, Rashford is a 6. Whereas I think he's a 5 and you think he's a 7.5 or 8 Something like that.

Of course he has plenty of big games he made an impact on, lol, I remember multiple goals scored vs City, Arsenal etc. Even scored vs us on Camp Nou 2 years ago.

You think he is not gonna be a big improvement over Ansu Fati last season?
I never said that. Just saying we can't say much til a player actually proves it on the park.

You said he's the best rotation player Barca have had since Pedro, in that position. That says more about Barca's poor squad building than rashford though, to me.

You are arguing as if we don't have Raphinha on LW and he needs to score 50 goals and assist to prove himself. :lol:

Really not the case. He is brought to provide extra ability, usually from the bench and as an important squad player. A role Ansu Fati couldn't dream to perform last season.

I think he will do exactly that. Provide far more contributions than our previous squad wingers were able to do.

Ok that’s more of an answer I was looking for.

We can count the barca game yeah. That was important.
But, be honest, league games against the top teams, no one uses those on this forum.

For any other player you would consider big games to be ones with NT or in CL knockout stage games.

That is not what I am saying at all.

I understand he's a rotation option. He is not expected to be one of the main players of the team.

My point is his ego is so large that he sees himself as one of your key players, most likely. He has an inflated view of his own ability. And I am worried for Barca that he will kick up a fuss if Raph is selected over him on big nights. That's all.

If you think he's happy to see himself as Raph's understudy, I wouldn't be that confident on that.

I don't know if you seen this, but here's the reason he does so much better against the Man Citys and Liverpools than the smaller sides

1) even when he scores his all round game is generally poor;

2) as I have noted, and it is pretty easy stuff to understand - he does well in stats against those teams because they play high lines or take risks and offer space in behind. Watch lots of his goals against them and they're either runs into space in behind, or once in a blue moon smashes from range. It is a tactical quirk and those games suit his game.

Oh I see, so you don't question his ability as a squad player, but fear his ego is gonna cause a problem in the team. I'm also worried about this, but there's many games to be had at Barcelona for players that contribute, and circumstances can be very kind to those that fight for their chances.

Ferran Torres played 2 matches in CL semis as starter and a Copa Final as starter last season.

And we have Flick. He ain't gonna have it.

Yes, I believe he can contribute as a squad player for Barca in some ways. But I am worried for Barca in the sense that he will start to think he should be starting games he doesn't deserve to because of his attitude. As I said before, there's a fine line between confidence in one's ability and severe arrogance, and Rashford has shown a tendency to cross it. But on the other hand he seems to wanna be at barca so he might play up less than in the toxic dressing room of Man United.
