Frenkie will be 29 next Summer. How time flies. He is still that 26 year old player in my eyes.

Point being though, Frenkie on a free will be an incredible opportunity for a Man City or PSG next Summer, which may increase how much we would want to pay him on his renewal.

Which brings me to my point. We shouldn't break the bank on his renewal or go too long on the length. We don't want to reach the stage where we are renewing Frenkie into the Gundy years and he was started to decline alot come 31/32 and we are stuck doing a Barcelona special. Trying to offload and willing to pay half the wages.

Neither PSG or especially city would want him, pep has shown exactly zero interest in him.

he has rodri and the flying dutchman who is a better box to box player the de Jong, because he actually contributes to the offense and every PSG midfield is better than him.

Let's not do the loco talk

But he would be a good opportunity on a free for clubs one step down like arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, man utd.

He was always going to reduce his salary, no chance laporta or deco was going to give him more money.

As deco said last week, this is the frenkie we want to see, indicating they have been unhappy with him for a while, but his solid performances and very good ones against Inter and Madrid have given them hope.

the question is what is he doing with his deferral, he's probably just telling them to stretch it out for the life of the contract.

At least now when he leaves in 2 or so years we can get some cash for him.

Let's see. It's one thing getting Frenkie off of a red panty contract with Barcelona wanting a large windfall on top.

It's another taking Frenkie on a free.

There will surely be alot of suitors.

Hope he renews soon. His renewal is the key for FFP.
Just gonna ballpark now.
Signed for 75m in 2019 on a contract running until 2024. That's 15m per year amortisation.

In 2020, signed a new deal until 2026. 60m remaining, 10m per year (still under the old rules).

10m of his fee remains. If he extends this summer (reportedly 3 year contract), that's gonna be 3,3m per year. We'd save 6,6m on amortisation.

Re his salary, he's set to receive 22m gross next season according to the leak. His contract average was 19m. Let's suppose he takes a significant cut, 15m gross for the next three years. 7m remain to be paid. If evenly distributed, that's 2,3m per year.

In total, his renewal would save us about 11m on the books under the assumptions above.

Significant, but less than half of what's needed for Nico.

Financial year ends today, we'll be much smarter in the coming days.
