What should the club prioritize

Don Juan Laporta Estruch

Basta yaaaaaaa, Cabron ! y Bona nit 🥂
The problem is, is we don't have 2 starting centre backs. We have one and a half. Cubarsi is the only world class one we have, unless URUGUAYO can find his Xavi form.

I'd swap 2 of Christensen, Martinez and Garcia, for just one world class centre back.

If we leave things as is then whoever plays with Pau will get targetted in the big UCL games. ( Infact, this happened already this season with Inigo. )

A experienced world class centre back in his prime would do wonders for Pau's development as well.

Christensen will be back in a big way best season.

I've never understood this preseason thing, so I don't think that will help araujo much in flicks system, he will just be the 3rd CB most of next season, unless something changes and everything clicks, in which case he's our best pure defender.

Next summer Martinez leaves, plus likey araujo.

And lewa.

We will then sign a CB and striker.
Who I don't know, because not than many elite CBs out there, would have to sign someone with potential and hope for the best.

You know what’s the worst part? There are no rumors at all that we’re looking for a CB. And yet, it’s obvious that we need fast, strong, tall center-backs with high football IQ and good passing skills for our high defensive line — because our two starters only have two of these qualities: IQ and good passing.

Imagine thinking a team that scored by far the most goals this season and was a disasterclass at the back needs a striker or a winger more than a reliable defender.

Sorry, but it's just bad planning.

And our hope should be in Christensen being back, and Araujo somehow becoming a good passer and not doing dumb shit under pressure after we know in years already he IS a bad passer and DOES dumb stuff under pressure.

Christensen will be back if he's injury free

Medical staff might do something in the summer and hats off if they do but if they fixed Pedri it doesn't mean they are some wizards who can magically heal every injury prone player

I think we shouldn't count on him

When Yamal had a short injury this season we experienced the worst league form in looong time

Now imagine if it happened he gets a long term one, we might as well say goodbye to the season

There is no depth. Attack is great with the 3 starters but there is nobody to cover for them.

Exactly.

These things are too obvious, why don't literally everyone understand this.

We have 0 debt after yamal and raphinha.

I'm not talking about depth or bench players. I'm talking about starter quality here. The worst positions in our start 11 are CB and keeper.

It's simple. Our CB main pair is Inigo and Cubarsi. Both are bench material for the level we want to reach.

We did great when yamal got injured last season didn't we? Lol

We do great when we rest raphinha don't we? Lol.

The club is right to address these issues first.

We have 6 players who can play CB, as well or better than 4 of the 5 CBs that was in the CL final yesterday

Yeah, we clearly struggled to create chances without Yamal vs Atletico in the 1-2 loss. Come on... of course we'll not be at our best if Yamal is missing, but the ISSUE is none of our starting CBs missed games this season. The issue is lack of quality for the CB position in the starting 2 players. I am obviously not the poster who gushes about how good Cubarsi is.

You'd rather sign a starting level attacker to use as a bench player in case Yamal and Raphinha is fit, than a starting CB that could improve our defense substantially? I cannot understand the logic behind this.

The level of a Domestic treble and 3 minutes of sensible defending away from the CL final.

They sure are awful.

We did that with 3 players on the field that at the start of the season,

Martinez
Martin
Garcia

no one thought would be starters in the CL SF.

Now imagine if we had kounde and balde

What does Kounde and Balde missing has to do with Cubarsi and Inigo's fuck-ups? I'm sure if Balde is there, Inigo doesn't drop on his belly instead of marking Thuram. Or Araujo remembers how to properly take opponents under marking.

Kounde and Balde missing doesn't excuse the poor individual level of all CBs of our team, including the starting pair, when faced with a high level of opposition.

We should take examples from PSG. They signed Pacho and instantly improved their defense. I'm sure their defense conceding stupid goals last season vs Barcelona and Dortmund had something to do with it. They conceded from corners vs both Barcelona and Dortmund in Paris. Corrected that this season. No more stupid goals from corners conceded (of course Donnarumma improving his level also helped a lot). Overall, PSG sorted their defense with the signing of Pacho, who is a great hit for them.

Beraldo, the CB who played both vs Barcelona and vs Dortmund last season, was looked at, considered not good enough for the level, and was dropped.

Long story short, if there are funds to sign a starter quality player, CB should be the position to spend the money on. Not back up winger, or striker, just in case Yamal or Raphinha get injured, which may not even happen in the first place.

Everything, especially Balde, but I'll leave you to figure that out.

They improved the 2nd season under the coach, like he literally said would happen.

But with you, players flip flop from WC to not WC minute to minute, I'm sure you'll be telling us pacho is one of the best CBs in the world now 😂.

In reality he's not better than any of our CBs, nor is 4 of the 5 defenders that played in the CL final yesterday.

Nor is Matteo Gabbia or palvlovic

But all conceded exactly 0 goals to this inter team, while there team shipped at least 3 goals past inter.

Because they aren't left hopelessly exposed with 3 minutes left in a game.
